Developer Presents Latest Lyndale Gardens Design Renderings

Get a look at the latest plans for the future downtown of Richfield.

The redevelopment of the former Lyndale Garden Center site is getting closer and closer to reality. While site developer The Cornerstone Group hasn't locked down all retail tenants or finalized the housing portion of the project, it has released the most recent renderings of what the site—which will be aptly named Lyndale Gardens—could look like. According to the designs, which can all be seen in the photo box above, the developer plans on both apartment and townhome style housing units, with many of the townhome units having a perfect view of Richfield Lake. In addition, multiple areas of public space are still a big part of the site's design. The design shows a splash pad, community oven, community garden, walking trails, market …

The major redevelopment happenings from 2012.

Richfield Patch covered a lot of different stories, topics and events throughout 2012, but there were a few that stood out as the most interesting, important or possibly infamous to our readers. As far as local redevelopment went, there was plenty that happened in the last year: The affordable housing complex, which was in the works for more than two years, was officially laid to rest in July after months of back and forth between the city and the developer, Ron Clark Construction & Design—and the city and residents. Our coverage: The first of many new businesses on the site of the former Kmart site opened its doors nearly a full month ahead of schedule on Oct. 3. LA Fitness is a full-service athletic facility and will soon be joined by …

Lyndale Gardens Developer 'Disappointed' By Bandshell Location Recommendation

The Richfield Community Services Commission recently recommended the proposed music venue should be at Veterans Memorial Park.

The developer of the long-vacant Lyndale Garden Center is "disappointed" by a city commission's recent recommendation regarding the building of a bandshell in town. The Richfield Community Services Commission recently recommended Veterans Memorial Park, however, Lyndale Gardens developer, The Cornerstone Group, was also planning on building a performance stage and hoping the city would be a part of it. After unveiling initial design plans for the blighted site in August, The Cornerstone Group told Richfield Patch it planned on going forward with the performance space regardless of the city's participation. This is still the case. "We were disappointed to hear that the commission was recommending Veterans Park as the location for the …

I thought it was a lovely event, something that I hope will continue after the site is developed. Of course, we can't always expect to have such a mild and pleasant night. But I thought it was a great idea, well carried out.   more ›

A benefit concert and a public presentation of the project are coming up this week.

For nearly a decade, the City of Richfield has been toying with the idea of creating a music venue within the city. And now, with the work of some dedicated individuals, Veterans Memorial Park is being recommended as the building site for a bandshell. According to Richfield Parks and Recreation Director Jim Topitzhofer, the Richfield Community Services Commission was charged with looking at all aspects of the project. "[The commission has] been looking at various factors—how big it should be, where to put it, what kinds of uses will it have, how much it will cost," Topitzhofer told Richfield Patch. Topitzhofer said Veterans Memorial Park is being recommended for a number of reasons, including its visibility from 66th Street, access to …
