A drive-thru surprise inspires this local Patch editor.

A sausage mcmuffin was calling out to me. I decided not to fight it. However, after navigating an onslaught of hungry drivers, I finally reached the window to find I had a surprise waiting for me. "OK. One thing," the young cashier said matter of factly. "Oh no," I said to myself. "They've run out of mcmuffins. This is not good." "Oh. Hey nice t-shirt," he side-tracked. "I love Journey!" The statewide event is Tuesday, Aug. 7.
Night to Unite, which is the state-wide effort of National Night Out, serves as a way for neighbors to come together for some outdoor activity, food and fun. It also serves as an opportunity for local law enforcement to remind residents of ways to protect themselves and their homes. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek and his deptuties will be visiting block parties around the metro area Tuesday night. With them they will have home security checklists for residents, including the following safety tips: Exterior Incorporate simple, inexpensive landscaping and safety measures to improve security to your home. Participation dropped ever so slightly from the 2011 event, which boasted more than 170 events. One resident, Stephanie Thurow, even won a block party courtesy of the KDWB radio station "Street Team." The city believes the Night to Unite event is a great opportunity for residents and communities to band together, while enjoying a summer evening and getting to know neighbors. The international chain announced plans to open as many as 59 new restaurants around the Twin Cities in the next five years, with Richfield being a possible location.

The restaurant chain recently announced plans to sprinkle 59 new locations throughout the Twin Cities in the next five years. City Pages secured a map of the planned sites, with one targeted for east of I-35W and south of Highway 62 in Richfield. Edina, Bloomington, Minneapolis and St. Louis Park are also pegged as potential spots.
