Richfield High School and the community has experienced immense change and maybe even some uncertainty with four new lead principals in the last four years. The most recent educator to take up the position, is no stranger to the community, students or the building. Jason Wenschlag has returned to the Richfield Public Schools district after a one-year stint in as a principal of a Wayzata elementary school. Prior to his departure at the end of the 2010-11 school year, he spent two years as principal at Sheridan Hills Elementary School and five years before that as an assistant principal at the high school. Jason Wenschag will return to the district this fall.
The next Richfield High School principal is no stranger to the building. In fact, he spent five years there not long ago. Jason Wenschlag, formerly an assistant principal at RHS and principal at Sheridan Hills Elementary School, will return to the district to take on the lead adminstrative position at the high school. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon. “Following three interviews and careful analysis of data gathered through a comprehensive assessment of knowledge, experience, dispositions and characteristics, I am confident that welcoming Jason back to Richfield is the right thing to do," Superintendent Bob Slotterback said in a press release. Three candidates are still in the running to be the next Richfield High School principal, with a decision on the final pick expected around July 9. Richfield Public Schools Superintendent Bob Slotterback to Richfield Patch the decision could happen sometime this week, but would most likely not be finalized until after the holiday. The district began with seven candidates, Slotterback said following last week's special school board session. The final three were chosen after the board and a selection committee met and reviewed each candidate. Slotterback also said each of the final three were participating in a leadership program through a local agency gathering feedback on each candidate, which will aid in the final decision. The Richfield School Board introduced former Principal Stephen West's replacement Monday night.
The Richfield School Board welcomed new Richfield High School (RHS) Principal Joshua Fuchs, who began his new position July 1, 2011, to the district Monday night. Fuchs spent eight years at Oakland Technical High School in California, where he taught physical education for four years and worked as a student support coach for two years. He was vice principal at Oakland Tech for two years before moving to Richfield. Fuchs also received his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of California–Berkeley. Fuchs takes the place of Dr. Stephen West, who took a position with Eden Prairie Schools after one year as RHS principal.
