Police Shoot and Kill Richfield Man: No. 6 Story of the Year

Richfield Patch covered a lot of different stories, topics and events throughout 2012, but there were a few that stood out as the most interesting, important or possibly infamous to our readers. The following is the No. 6 story of the year. *** After responding to a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation on the morning of Oct. 5, Richfield police shot and killed Jeffery Michael O'Connor. O'Connor, 25, was reportedly wielding a knife when he was shot and killed. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner stated he died of multiple gunshot wounds. The Hennepin County Attorney is still investigating the incident and the case will be taken to a grand jury to determine whether or not to charge the shooting officer. …

Yes, I knew Jeff . My son played with him over at there house. His mom would babysit my son. I did not know Jeff in his later years, but I know that he comes from a very loving and kind family and am so very saddened by this tragedy. October Officer-Involved Shooting Still Under Review

Jeffery Michael O'Connor, 25, was shot and killed by Richfield police on Oct. 5, 2012. The case will be taken to a grand jury.

Police Chief Releases Statement, Names Officers Involved in Friday Shooting

Jeffery Michael O'Connor was shot and killed by Richfield Police Friday morning.

After a 25-year-old Richfield man was shot and killed by police Friday, Richfield Police Chief Todd Sandell released the following statement during a press conference Monday afternoon: On October 5, 2012 at 8:53 a.m., Richfield Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a man with a knife at a house in the 6600 block of Park Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered an adult male, later identified as Jeffrey Michael O'Connor. During this encounter, O'Connor was shot by police. He was pronounced dead at the scene. UPDATE: Authorities Release Name of Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

A Richfield officer shot and killed the man Friday morning after responding to a call of an emotionally disturbed man.

The name of the man killed by a Richfield officer in an incident on the 6600 block of Park Avenue Friday morning. According to a press release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, Jeffery Michael O'Connor, 25, died of multiple gunshot wounds after a Richfield officer shot him inside a residence around 9 a.m. Friday. As previously reported by Richfield Patch, Richfield officers responded the home on Park Avenue on a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation. O'Connor was reportedly wielding a knife when the officer shot and killed him. Authorities are investigating the incident.
