The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced that the Minnesota Junior Hockey Group, led by Scott Krueger, Scott Meyer and Joe Pankratz, has announced that the team name for the new NAHL team in Richfield, Minnesota, will be the Minnesota Magicians. The team will take to the ice in the NAHL in the 2013-14 season. A presentation to and final approval by the USA Hockey junior council took place at the USA Hockey Winter Meetings this past week on January 19th. The Magicians will play their home games out of Richfield Ice Arena. The two-sheet facility has a main arena with seating for 1,800. The Magicians are expected to play in the NAHL’s Central …

Despite great efforts by the leading Missota Conference team, the Stars took the game in a 6-5 win.
The Stars of the Academy of Holy Angels came to the Northfield Ice Arena on Thursday night and dealt Northfield its first Missota Conference loss of the season. The Raiders (10-4, 4-1 Missota) rallied back twice from three-goal deficits to make the game close, but fell 6-5. The Holy Angels team, which currently holds a 5-5-1 record on the season, has its next game is 2 p.m. Saturday at Richfield Ice Arena against Red Wing. Richfield Patch catches up with Becca Hendrickson after she returns from playing in the NCAA tournament.
After making quite a name for herself as the Spartans girls hockey team’s star goalie, Richfield High School 2011 grad and Concordia College-Moorhead freshman Becca Hendrickson recently returned from New York after playing in the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. “[Making it to the tournament] was a huge deal for our team,” Hendrickson told Richfield Patch. “This was the first time in history that the Concordia women’s hockey team had never made it that far.” The team lost to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the quarterfinal round, but Hendrickson said she never expected to play in that game. “We lost in the MIAC championship game to Gustavus [Adolphus College], and we thought that was our last game,” she said. “We were sad …

Students wore white and said prayers for the injured hockey player.
In honor of injured hockey player Jack Jablonski, Richfield Blessed Trinity Catholic School fourth- through eighth-graders participated in a 'whiteout' event Friday. Students dressed in white, said prayers for Jablonski and his family, and monetary donations were collected for the Jack Jablonski Fund. Jablonski, a 16-year-old Benilde-St. Margaret sophomore, was checked from behind and into the boards during a junior varsity game on Dec. 30 against Wayzata. The hit left Jablonski paralyzed.

Carroll Goalie School opens 17th year of instructing netminders over the weekend.
The Carroll Goalie School, run by Richfield resident Steve Carroll, opened its 17th season of instructing future netminders with a weekend camp at Richfield Ice Arena. Carroll, a former Edina East High School and Mankato State University star netminder, has run the school since 1995. This weekend's camp concluded with a free-for-all half-rink hockey game between students and coaches, with the youngsters claiming a 4-3 victory over their instructors.
