Near Drowning in Richfield; 6-Year-Old in Critical Condition

An 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl were pulled from an in-ground swimming pool this morning.

At 10:56 a.m. Richfield Police responded to a home in the 7300 block of Garfield Avenue South. Upon arrival, two neighbors led officers to an in-ground swimming pool where an 8-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl were in the water. According to a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office news release, the girl had fallen into the pool and the boy got in the pool in an attempt to help her. The pool was uncovered and was partially-filled with water, the release said. Two police officers and the neighbors got the children out of the pool.   The girl was unconscious and CPR was performed; both children were transported to HCMC. The girl is in critical condition. The boy was not injured, however, he was transported as a precaution. The children are cousins…

PHOTOS: Four Cars Collide on Main Richfield Road

HCMC Paramedics hauled away multiple people with non-life threatening injuries.

Richfield Public Safety officers said they heard the crash from blocks away. Four vehicles were involved in an accident in Richfield at 77th Street and Lyndale Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors were pried open by members of the Richfield Fire Services Department with power equipment and multiple victims were extracted and taken by HCMC to the hospital.  Fortunately, according to Richfield Police officers on the scene, none of the injuries sustained in the accident were life-threatening. However, HCMC emergency vehicles did take multiple people to the hospital. Richfield Patch will update readers if more information on the cause of the accident or condition of those involved becomes available.
