No Cuts Anticipated For Newly Formed Girls Hockey Co-Op

Richfield High School and Academy of Holy Angels will join forces this winter.

Come winter, Richfield High School lady hockey players will be donning rival Academy of Holy Angels uniforms as part of the schools’ new co-op agreement. The Minnesota State High School League approved the co-op in April 2011, following a one-season agreement to allow Richfield’s Alyson Niesen to compete with the AHA team during the 2011-12 season. “We think it will be a win-win for both schools and the community,” RHS Athletic Director Todd Olson told Richfield Patch. “Now our youth girls have an opportunity to play at the high school level.” AHA’s athletic director, Mike Kautzman, agreed and said: “At this point, it makes sense for both schools … and it’s nice to be involved with Richfield. Richfield [High School] is only six blocks away…

Update: Richfield, Holy Angels Girls Hockey to Form Co-Op

The one-year agreement allows Richfield to continue searching for a permanent co-op for future seasons

Richfield’s declining numbers within its hockey program have led to RHS looking to form a cooperative over the past four years. Olson said Richfield has spoken with five schools about a long-term agreement. For this winter, the Spartans and Stars will join, with Richfield sending one senior to the Stars’ program. The younger…
