The company announced Friday that it would cut more jobs as part of its turnaround efforts.
After announcing it would layoff more than 600 Geek Squad employees nationwide late last week, Best Buy confirmed 1,800 other store workers would also be cut. The announcement came Friday. According to Business Week, Best Buy spokesman Bruce Hight said the layoffs are part of the company's "ongoing turnaround plan." In March the company confirmed it would close 50 U.S. Stores after another quarter of downed profits and shortly after saw its CEO, Brian Dunn, resign admid a personal conduct investigation. Since March Best Buy has also vowed to trim corporate employees and cut $800 million in costs over the next three years. The troubled retailer sees another high-profile executive hit the bricks.
Two days after Best Buy's chief marketing officer, Barry Judge, announced his resignation, another high-level company executive has also left the company. According to the Star Tribune, Dave Deno, chief financial officer of Best Buy's international division and president of its Asia region, recently joined OSI Restaurant Partners as its executive vice president and CFO. Best Buy confirmed Deno's departure late Friday. Deno's departure is the fourth in a series of high-level executives leaving the company. Judge announced his leave Wednesday, while former CEO Brian Dunn resigned April 10 and Geek Squad founder, Robert Stephens, left in March. The Geek Squad will be fixing sick computers free of charge on Wednesday at local Best Buy stores across the metro area, including in Richfield. Available to 50 clients per store, patrons will receive free service covering virus removal, troubleshooting assistance for all computer-related issues, and software and operating installation and repairs for your laptop, desktop, Mac or tablet device.
