Keith Ellison Sends Prayers to Those Affected By Newtown School Tragedy

The congressman also asked a judge to end the U.S. Senate filibuster.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement Friday after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT: "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic shooting today in a Connecticut elementary school that took the lives of 27, including 18 children. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and victims. As a father, I cannot imagine the pain and grief that comes from losing a child in such a senseless tragedy. While we do not yet know the full details of what happened today, I know our nation will come together to support the community of Newtown." Fields: Ellison Ignores North Minneapolis

The Fifth District Republican challenger argues that last May's tornado highlighted Ellison's ineffectiveness.

Chris Fields, the Fifth District Republican challenger to incumbent Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), took to the Star Tribune opinion section to criticize Ellison's focus on North Minneapolis. In the commentary piece, posted Sunday, Fields argues that Ellison has continually ignored the area, especially in the aftermath of last May's tornado: A continual lack of focus by U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, a Democrat representing the Fifth District, led to a failure in making the case for the North Side in Washington. Who else is there to make the case? Instead, Ellison focuses on issues in the Middle East concerning Palestinians, Syrians and Egyptians. They are not the 99 percent of constituents, are they? No Keith Ellison does not live up to his motto, "Everybody Counts Everybody Matters". He and other politicians serve only a small group of voters and I for one will not advocate for him again for office.
