Multiple Overnight I-494 Lane Closures Begin Monday

The road construction season has officially begun.

Now that the weather has finally shaped up this week, crews are at work on Interstate 494. Drivers should be aware that multiple overnight lanes and ramp closures will be sprinkled throughout this week. The following is from MnDOT: At 10 p.m. May 6 through May 10, both directions of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 100 and Xerxes Avenue. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. daily through May 10, and by 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11.  At 10 p.m. Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8, westbound I-494 between 12th Avenue South and Portland Avenue will be reduced to a single lane. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. the following day. At 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 9 eastbound I-494 between Portland Avenue and 12 Avenue …

What gets me is that the state/city are always repaving the same roads every three years, it seems. Yet the roads continually fall apart. Look at the way Vernon Avenue from Hwy 100 to Gleason has fallen apart in just a few years since it was resurfaced. And that road gets very few trucks.   more ›

France Ramp to Eastbound I-494 Closes Sunday Until May

Eastbound and westbound traffic will also be reduced to one lane in each direction for for a few overnight stints next week.

Despite the recent spring snow storm, Minnesota Department of Transportation crews are continuing their work on the I-494 corridor. With the spring construction season underway, new closures will begin Sunday, April 14. The ramp from France Avenue onto eastbound I-494 will close until sometime in May, but may open sooner. Detour signs will be posted. In addition, at 10 p.m. on April 14 through April 18, both directions of I-494 between France and Penn avenues will be reduced to single lanes. With the recent spring-like temperatures, MnDOT crews are taking advantage and repairing potholes.

Eastbound lanes between Lyndale and Portland avenues will close overnight Tuesday as crews continue work to repair potholes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane 10 p.m. Tuesday, and reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Richfield/Edina Rampage Youth Wrestlers Impress at State Championship

Twenty-one wrestlers attend the state championship with eight earning all-state honors.

The ambitious goals that the Richfield/Edina Youth Wrestling set early in the season were pleasantly exceeded this past weekend at the MN/USA Youth Wrestling Championships held in Rochester, MN. Over 1,700 wrestlers from Minnesota gathered for three days of grappling. On February 9-10, the Richfield/Edina youth wrestling team competed in Gopher State Nationals in Monticello, MN against 1100 boys from 11 states. More I-494 Lane Closures Begin Monday

Crews are continuing work on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge project.

After postponing work due to inclement weather last weekend, crews will resume working on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge Monday night. As a result, construction crews will begin closing eastbound and westbound lanes on Interstate 494 at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. Other closure details from a Minnesota Department of Transportation release include: Eastbound I-494 will be reduced to a single lane at 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 and Tuesday, Feb. 12 and will reopen at 6 a.m. on the following days. Westbound I-494 will be reduced to a single lane at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 and Thursday, Feb. 14 and will reopen at 6 a.m. on the following days. Motorists should watch for intermittent full closures of up to 15 minutes on both directions of the freeway …

Planned I-494 Construction Delayed by Winter Weather

Cold temperatures and snowfall pushed back planned construction on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge.

Frigid temperatures and anticipated snowfall this weekend have delayed planned work on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge between Feb. 1-4, according to MnDOT officials. Due to the inclement weather, scheduled lane closures on the busy roadway have been pushed back to Feb. 11. Additional information on the project will be provided by MnDOT when a new schedule is finalized. Eastbound I-494 between France Avenue and Penn Avenue was scheduled to be reduced to a single lane from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, through 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, and again from 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, through 8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3.
