Two national retailers—WalMart Stores and The Dick's Sporting Goods—have decided to remove some rifles from store shelves. The Dick's Sporting Goods chain said Tuesday that it is suspending sales of some rifles nationwide because of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, USA Today is reporting. Dick's Sporting Goods has more than 500 stores in 44 states with Twin Cities locations including Roseville, Minnetonka, Richfield, Maple Grove, Burnsville, Woodbury, Coon Rapids and Monticello. The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback was in Richfield Friday to promote his concussion education and screening program.
Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback and Super Bowl champion Brad Johnson visited Dick's Sporting Goods in Richfield Friday to promote his PACE (Protecting Athletes Through Concussion Education) program and baseline concussion testing. Not only does PACE aim to educate young athletes on the importance of baseline testing, it also hopes to raise enough funds to provide testing for one million young athletes. While at Dick's Johnson—who suffered several concussions during his career—talked about the importance of concussion education and testing, watched as young athletes were tested and, of course, signed autographs for fans. Dick's Sporting Goods will donate $1 to PACE for every pair of athletic shoes purchased at the store or online …

Learning that Walmart is the largest retailers of weapons like the ones used in this shooting and others just added another reason for me to never shop there. Nice that they pulled some things for now for PR purposes, but why not take the lead in keeping families safe and choose at least ONE thing they don't try to squeeze a buck out of? Target doesn't sell weapons and that's one of MANY reasons … more ›
