Richfield High's DECA Program Receives National Recognition—Again

With the award, the team members earn a trip to Anaheim, CA.

Editor's Note: The following is a Richfield High School DECA press release. Richfield High School’s DECA chapter has earned the prestigious Gold Level Certification for the operation of its School-Based Enterprise (SBE), the “Spartan Avenue” store. This certification earns team members a trip to the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, CA on April 24-27 where they will participate in the SBE Academy to receive their awards and compete for top national honors. This year’s award is a re-certification of the store’s original certification earned in 2012. Richfield's Dean Breuer Nominated for Teacher of the Year

Breuer is one of 135 candidates from across the state.

Richfield High School business teacher and DECA supervisor Dean Breuer has been nominated for the 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award. Breuer is one of 135 teachers from across the state to get the honor of being nominated. The program is organized by Education Minnesota. The winner will be announced May 5 at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest in Brooklyn Park. According to a release, over the coming weeks a 25-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semifinalists, and then finalists. Richfield DECA students earn a major award for their efforts to make their school business a successful one.

Richfield High School DECA students were surprised by their instructor, Dean Breuer, as he announced the school's store received School Based Enterprise Gold Level Certification Friday morning. While students thought they were creating a press release for an in-class assignment, they were eventually told it was to announce the good news to the community.
