Five Things: 15 Residents Interested in 3 School Board Seats

Five things you need to know today.

1) Fifteen people filed to run for three school board seats that are up for grabs this November. Stay tuned to find out who's running and who isn't. 2) The last performance in the Concerts in the Park series is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Augsburg Park. (Unfortunately, this is signaling the end of the summer.) 3) There is a mega, multi-family garage sale just outside of Richfield's borders at 5337 28th Ave. S. in Minneapolis. PHOTOS: Concerts in the Park Hosts Local Talent

Richfield's own Northern Winds Concert Band played Augsburg Park Thursday night as the Concerts in the Park series of performances continues this summer.

Northern Winds Concert Band played in the amphitheater at Augsburg Park Thursday evening playing a variety of songs including Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band," Cole Porter's "Anything Goes," and "Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa.  The band also recognized Richfield High School graduate, Angela Preston, with a scholarship and certificate for her recent accomplishment. Preston has been playing saxaphone with the Northern Winds Concert Band since seventh-grade, according to Band Conductor Joe Speakman. Preston's father, Joel Preston, also plays trombone in the band. Concerts in the Park is sponsored by Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and presented by Richfield Recreation Services. Concerts are every Thursday at 7 p.m. …

PHOTOS: Augsburg Park Hosts the Sounds of Dan Perry and Ice Cream

Dan Perry and Ice Cream entertained young and old Thursday evening as part of the Concerts in the Park series of performances at Augsburg Park this summer.

Getting things going with the signature Motown classic, "Dancing in the Streets," Dan Perry and Ice Cream had the crowd that gathered in Augsburg Park tapping their feet and singing along from their chairs and blankets on the lawn. And then out came the bubble machines! Children danced and played in the bubbles tirelessly as the band played a variety of well known songs such as Niel Diamond's "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime," "Top of the World" by The Carpenters, and "Stoned Soul Picnic" by The 5th Dimension. They even covered a Reba MaEntire tune. Check out the photo gallery above for pictures from the park, especially all the children playing in the bubbles. Five Things: Volunteers Still Needed for Richfield Hometown 4th Celebration

Five things you need to know today.

1) The Richfield Hometown Fourth of July committee is still looking for volunteers to help out during the five-day festival. For more information or to volunteer, go to the committee's website. 2) Bill Geezy and the New Deal are the performers at Thursday night's Concerts in the Park event. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 3) St. Nicholas Episcopal Church is holding a Labyrinth Walk, which is a walking meditation, at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The even is nondenominational and free and open to the public. 4) Oak Grove Lutheran Church is holding its Twenty Years of Music event Friday night. Five Things: Richfield's 'Concerts in the Park' Series Continues for Week Two

Five things you need to know today.

1)   Retro Groove is performing at Thursday night’s Concerts in the Park series. The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Augsburg Park. 2)   The Richfield Outdoor Pool designates two lanes for lap swimming from 7:15-8:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday until it closes for the season this fall. For more information, click here. 3)   The Richfield Ice Arena has open skating from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. 4)   Blessed Trinity Catholic School announced that Patrick O’Keefe will be taking over as the school’s principal, as current Principal Sue Kerr is leaving to another school. 5)   Stay tuned for photos from Wednesday night’s Backporch at the Bart Bluegrass Concert.

Five Things You Need to Know Today: School's Out for High Schoolers

Five need-to-know news bites.

1)   Thursday is the last day of school for Richfield High School students. 2)   The Concerts in the Park series is kicking off with a performance by the Richfield Symphonic Band at 7 p.m. Thursday at Augsburg Park.  The concerts will happen every Thursday until Aug. 11—Aug.18 if a make-up day due to rain is necessary. 3)   The Richfield Community Center is hosting its weekly arts and crafts activity for seniors from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday morning. No registration is needed. 4)   Centennial Elementary School held its academic awards ceremony Thursday morning.
