VIDEO: Chicago Store Owner Fights Off Armed Richfield Robber With Bat

Shop owner Luis Quizhpe took a baseball to the two men who robbed his specialty store in Chicago. A Richfield man has been charged in the incident.

Chicago store owner Luis Quizhpe didn't go down without a fight during a robbery Apil 9 that left him with a gunshot wound to the leg. While being held up at gunpoint, Quizhpe grabbed a baseball bat and started swinging at the two men attempting to rob him. And it was all caught on surveillance video. Despite being shot at multiple times, Quizhpe kept swinging at the suspect with the gun. Only one of the shots landed on the shop owner, hitting him in the upper right leg. As previously reported by Patch, Richfield resident Keith Owens, 51, was named as one of the suspects. He appeared in bond court Wednesday afternoon charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Richfield Man Charged With Shooting Chicago Store Owner During Robbery

Police and the Cook County Attorney's Office say Keith Owens was one of two men who robbed a store in Logan Square in Chicago last week.

A Richfield man suspected of shooting a Chicago store owner in an attempted robbery caught on video April 9 was ordered to be held without bail Wednesday. According to the Chicago Tribune, Richfield resident Keith Owens, 51, appeared in bond court Wednesday afternoon charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Prosecutors said another man, Cornell Mack, 53, was also charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and discharge of a firearm for the same crime last week. Shop owner Luis Quizhpe and his brother-in-law Luis Ernesto Aucaquizhpe tried to fight the robbers off during last week's incident. This year's spring musical is one of greed, murder and betrayal.

Richfield High School thespians are gearing up for opening night of their spring musical masterpiece: "Chicago." According to Director Steven Bucko, "Chicago is about a less-than-moral woman—Roxie Hart—who kills her lover and with the help of other less-than-moral people, gets away with it." While most audiences don't secretly hope for a murder to come out on top, "Chicago" is different. "What I like about the show is that we, the audience, are rooting for [Roxie]," Bucko said. "We cheer for Roxie, Velma, Billy Flynn, and Mama. They all win in the end. And the two most deserving or 'good' characters, Amos and Hunyak, do not." Richfield Man Arrested With 99 Grams of Heroin; Charged With Three Felonies

Police say Eric Darnell Totten transported a large quantity of heroin via the Megabus from Chicago to the Twin Cities.

Eric Darnell Totten, 32, is charged with three felonies: importation of a controlled substance, which has a maximum penalty of 35 years in prison and a $1.25 million fine; and first-degree drug sales and first-degree drug possession, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. The importation charge has a mandatory minimum penalty of a $375,000 fine, and the other two have mandatory minimum penalties of $300,000 fines.
