PHOTOS: Concerts in the Park Hosts Local Talent

Richfield's own Northern Winds Concert Band played Augsburg Park Thursday night as the Concerts in the Park series of performances continues this summer.

Northern Winds Concert Band played in the amphitheater at Augsburg Park Thursday evening playing a variety of songs including Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band," Cole Porter's "Anything Goes," and "Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa.  The band also recognized Richfield High School graduate, Angela Preston, with a scholarship and certificate for her recent accomplishment. Preston has been playing saxaphone with the Northern Winds Concert Band since seventh-grade, according to Band Conductor Joe Speakman. Preston's father, Joel Preston, also plays trombone in the band. Concerts in the Park is sponsored by Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and presented by Richfield Recreation Services. Concerts are every Thursday at 7 p.m. …

Five Things: Kite Event Saturday; Farmers Market Accepting EBT

1) As mentioned Tuesday, crews began taking down the old Richfield City Hall building Tuesday morning. Stay tuned for a video of the action. 2) The Richfield Community Council met Tuesday night and discussed the issue of teen homelessness and are considering ways to help, while also possibly finding a place for a local shelter. 3) The Richfield Farmers Market is now excepting EBT and SNAP tokens. 4) All residents, families and children are invited to Augsburg Park Saturday to participate in a kite flying experience hosted by the library. The event is from 10:30 to noon. 5) Homeowners who are in need of a little mortgage assistance can submit an application, which can be found on the City of Richfield website,for up to $50,000 in federal …

PHOTOS: Augsburg Park Hosts the Sounds of Dan Perry and Ice Cream

Dan Perry and Ice Cream entertained young and old Thursday evening as part of the Concerts in the Park series of performances at Augsburg Park this summer.

Getting things going with the signature Motown classic, "Dancing in the Streets," Dan Perry and Ice Cream had the crowd that gathered in Augsburg Park tapping their feet and singing along from their chairs and blankets on the lawn. And then out came the bubble machines! Children danced and played in the bubbles tirelessly as the band played a variety of well known songs such as Niel Diamond's "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime," "Top of the World" by The Carpenters, and "Stoned Soul Picnic" by The 5th Dimension. 1) The Richfield Hometown Fourth of July committee is still looking for volunteers to help out during the five-day festival. For more information or to volunteer, go to the committee's website. 2) Bill Geezy and the New Deal are the performers at Thursday night's Concerts in the Park event. Five Things: Richfield's 'Concerts in the Park' Series Continues for Week Two

Five things you need to know today.

1)   Retro Groove is performing at Thursday night’s Concerts in the Park series. The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Augsburg Park. 2)   The Richfield Outdoor Pool designates two lanes for lap swimming from 7:15-8:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday until it closes for the season this fall. Five Things: Bluegrass Concert at the Richfield 'Bart' House

Five news tidbits you must know today.

1)   Blue Wolf, a local Bluegrass band, will be performing at the Bartholomew House from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday night as part of the “Backporch at the Bart” concert series sponsored by Homestead Pickin' Parlor and the Richfield Historical Society. 2)   Many area third graders will participate in Richfield’s annual Police and Fire Safety Day Wednesday. 3)   Nicollet Avenue at 76th Street is expected to reopen Wednesday, while Portland Avenue will close at the same cross-street for an estimated six weeks as part of the Richfield Metro Sewer Project. 'Concerts in the Park' Kicks-Off With Richfield Symphonic Band

Richfield's Concerts in the Park summer concert series gets underway for the season with a performance from the Richfield Symphonic Band.

The Richfield Symphonic Band performed at Augsburg Park Thursday evening under the lead of Conductor Paul Maybery as the first performance in Richfield's *Concerts in the Park series. The concert opened with Herbert's "The President's March" and played selections of various styles  including fox trot, waltz, classical, patriotic selections including "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa, and even a solo with Dennis Opland playing the euphonium.  The audience enjoyed the show from lawn chairs, blankets, or just a nice spot on the grass. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable.  The Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by *Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and will …

PHOTOS: Richfield High Students Celebrate the End of the School Year—With Water Balloons

Excitement was in the air as the final bell of the year brought on smiles, hugs and a water balloon fight in Augsburg Park.

Many smiles, lots of hugs, and a very visible Richfield Public Safety presence were all evident following the final school bell of the year, which rang one last time to let students know that it was offically summer. After some celebration in the parking lot of the school, students headed to Augsburg Park for an epic end-of-the year water balloon fight.   Take a look at the action in the photo gallery above.

Five Things You Need to Know Today: School's Out for High Schoolers

Five need-to-know news bites.

1)   Thursday is the last day of school for Richfield High School students. 2)   The Concerts in the Park series is kicking off with a performance by the Richfield Symphonic Band at 7 p.m. Thursday at Augsburg Park.  The concerts will happen every Thursday until Aug. 11—Aug.18 if a make-up day due to rain is necessary. 3)   The Richfield Community Center is hosting its weekly arts and crafts activity for seniors from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
