They raided the Richfield park's Saturday 'egg scramble' event, the newspaper said.
Richfield park staff hid plastic eggs for the Augsburg Park 'egg scramble' Saturday, but not well enough to outfox hungry squirrels who got to the treats inside the eggs before kids could, according to the Star Tribune. “We tried to cover all our bases," Richfield recreation supervisor Nick Thompson told the newspaper, "but we weren’t ready for the squirrels.” The critters knew what they were after, the Star Tribune reported: Ann Hoffer, also a city recreation supervisor, saw one wily thief scaling a tree with an egg in its mouth. “I think they just saw brightly colored objects and thought they’d go for it,” she said. “They smelled the candy inside.” Read the full Star Tribune article. Rinks will remain open each day through mid-February, weather permitting.
The Richfield Recreation Services Department has opened the outdoor skating season at various parks throughout the city. The warming house days and locations are: The warming houses opened on Dec. 26, 2012 and remain open through mid-February 2013. The hours are: Special holiday hours are: Skating sites without warming houses are located at Augsburg, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Roosevelt and Taft parks. All, with the exception of Fremont Park, have lights until 9 p.m. In the event of inclement weather the department may decide to close the rinks for the safety reasons. Kids will get a kite, snack and hear a little story.
Richfield's Kite Festival is back for another year at Augsburg Park. Kids and families of all ages can enjoy a morning of flying kites, eating snacks and hearing a story about the flying wonders from Librarian Phuoc Tran. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. at the park and is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by Friends of Augsburg Park Library in collaboration with Richfield Public Safety, the Joint Community Police Partnership and the Richfield Police Multicultural Advisory Committee. Richfield's own Northern Winds Concert Band played Augsburg Park Thursday night as the Concerts in the Park series of performances continues this summer.
Northern Winds Concert Band played in the amphitheater at Augsburg Park Thursday evening playing a variety of songs including Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band," Cole Porter's "Anything Goes," and "Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa. The band also recognized Richfield High School graduate, Angela Preston, with a scholarship and certificate for her recent accomplishment. Preston has been playing saxaphone with the Northern Winds Concert Band since seventh-grade, according to Band Conductor Joe Speakman. Preston's father, Joel Preston, also plays trombone in the band. Concerts in the Park is sponsored by Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and presented by Richfield Recreation Services. Concerts are every Thursday at 7 p.m. …

Dan Perry and Ice Cream entertained young and old Thursday evening as part of the Concerts in the Park series of performances at Augsburg Park this summer.
Getting things going with the signature Motown classic, "Dancing in the Streets," Dan Perry and Ice Cream had the crowd that gathered in Augsburg Park tapping their feet and singing along from their chairs and blankets on the lawn. And then out came the bubble machines! Children danced and played in the bubbles tirelessly as the band played a variety of well known songs such as Niel Diamond's "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime," "Top of the World" by The Carpenters, and "Stoned Soul Picnic" by The 5th Dimension.
