Richfield Names 2013 High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

Each year the athletic department inducts new members.

The Richfield High School Athletic Department announced the 2013 Richfield Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Friday: Individual Inductees: Distinguished Service: The induction will take place June 17 at Crystal Lakes Golf Course in Lakeville as part of the Spartan Founday's annual golf tournament and banquet. Richfield Snowboarders Place High at National Amateur Competition

The competition was held from March 30 though April 5 in Colorado.

Editor's Note: The following is a G Team press release. Two Richfield snowboarders placed among the Nation’s top competitors at this year’s USASA (United States Amateur Snowboard Association) national snowboard competition held at Copper Mountain, CO March 30st – April 5th. These riders are top competitor from Minnesota’s Upper Midwest Alt series, competing in multiple disciplines. They advanced to the National Championships where they left a mark on this year’s competition competing in Boardercross, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Competing for the Menehune Boys (10-11) division is Elija Yoho, placing 44th in Boardercross, 37th in Giant Slalom and 38th in Slalom. Richfield Competitive Soccer League Registration Has Begun

Both boys and girls teams are looking for new players.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by the Richfield Soccer Association. Richfield Soccer Association (RSA) is now accepting registrations for is competitive soccer program for this coming spring and summer season.  All ages between 9 and 18 are welcome, but based on last year's participation, we will most likely field U10 and U12 teams for the boys and U10 and U13 teams for the girls. RSA is coming off one of it's most successful competitive seasons in recent years.  The RSA U11(C2) boys team won the MN Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) State Championship last fall.  RSA is looking to build on that success for the coming season.  Come be a part of it! Richfield Athletes Sign Letters of Intent on National Signing Day

Two of Richfield's football players committed to colleges Wednesday.

Two Richfield High School football players were among hundreds of other college-bound senior athletes who participated in National Signing Day on Feb. 6 in the United States. Chandler Arredondo and Cameron Dearing both signed letters of intent to their respective colleges of choice Wednesday morning. Arredondo signed a national letter of intent with Winona State University and plans to major in education, while Dearing signed with Rochester Community and Technical College where he plans to enter the Law Enforcement Training program. Rampage Wrestlers Strong on National Stage

The following letter was submitted to Richfield Patch.

Dear Editor, The Richfield/Edina Youth Wrestling set ambitious goals back in June; attend the Keen Cliff USA Wrestling Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA this November. First year coaches, Jeffrey Wichern and Jaffari Vanier know that building a championship program, you have to shine at the State and National events.  The Richfield/Edina Rampage took this big step by attending the Keen Cliff USA Nationals and were represented by Evan Mertz 90lbs., Keno Vanier 50lbs., Terae Dunn 50lbs. and Kaine Laroque 45lbs. Their five months of hard work reaped success by wrestling well against the best 1,300 wrestlers around the United States. Richfield Triathletes Compete in Maple Grove's 'Dare to Tri'

Five Richfield residents took the "dare" this weekend.

In its third year, the Maple Grove Triathlon brought out more than a 1,000 athletes to Weaver Lake Park in Maple Grove Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. Among the competition options, triathletes could choose to either run in the Dare to Sprint which included a .3 mile swim, 14 mile bike ride and three mile run or the longer The Olympic Dare course of .9 miles, 26 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run. The top finisher in The Olympic Dare was Kris Spoth (2:03:07) of Ames, IA followed by Patrick Parish of Bloomington and Andrew Turner of Sioux Falls, SD.  From Richfield, four triathletes participated in The Olympic Dare. Jessica January Dethroned As State Hurdles Champion

However, she set a new state record during Friday's prelims and Obsa Ali took second place in 3200 meter run.

Richfield High School junior and athletic all-star Jessica January was defeated by Farmington's Nadia Lorencz in the 100 meter hurdles event at the state track and field finals Saturday. January held the state title for two years straight and placed second Saturday with a time of 14.39 seconds. While January didn't get a third title, she did break the state record in the preliminary race Friday with a first place finish of 14.32 seconds. The best part? She beat the state record of 14.33 seconds that she set as a freshman. In addition, Richfield's Obsa Ali, a sophomore, represented the boys team in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs. UPDATED: January Looks for Third Hurdles Title At State

While sophomore Obsa Ali competes in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs this weekend.

Two Richfield High School runners are heading to the state track meet this weekend, one defending a title and the other hoping for another first place finishes. Jessica January: 100 meter hurdles Junior Jessica January is the reigning 100 meter hurdles state champion as well as the state record holder with a time of 14.33 seconds. She has been the reining champ for the last two years, setting the record as a freshman. *January will compete in the priliminary round Friday and the finals are at 9:55 a.m. Saturday. Obsa Ali: 3200 meter run and 1600 meter run Sophomore Obsa Ali will compete against a handful of other runners in the 3200 meter run finals at 9:20 a.m. Friday.
