Brenna Pederson, a Richfield sophomore at FAIR School, was honored at the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards Sunday.
The Minnesota College of Art and Design (MCAD) hosted the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSAA), where students across the state were recognized for visual artistic excellence, including Richfield's Brenna Pederson. Pederson, a Richfield resident who attends the FAIR School in Downtown Minneapolis, received a Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention for her drawings. Her work was among 314 pieces selected from 1,279 individual applications. Pederson also won a summer scholarship program from MCAD, worth $2,500. The program will introduce her to the college experience for a few weeks over the summer while she also earns college credit. Richfield's Vuitt's Galleries is all about showcasing local work, according to Abdel Ouchagour, the gallery's owner. Ouchagour feels his role in the community is to help local artists from Edina and Richfield be seen—and he can't resist a good piece when he sees one. This was definitely the case when he saw the work of Richfield artist Jeff Sullivan, he said. Myra Sullivan, Sullivan's mother, brought in one of his pieces to be framed and Ouchagour fell in love and wanted to see more. Sullivan had never showed his art to the public before, but Ouchagour convinced him anyway. But Sullivan isn't your typical painter—and he has an interesting way of creating his work.
