Family of Accent Signage Victim Files Suit Against Company, Shooter's Estate

The family of Jake Beneke of Maple Grove says the company should have known shooter Andrew Engeldinger could turn violent.

In a lawsuit recently filed in Hennepin County court, the family of a man killed in last year's Accent Signage massacre is suing the company. Shooter Andrew Engeldinger's estate, or his family, was also named as a defendant. Engledinger gunned down six co-workers in September 2012 after being fired, including Maple Grove resident Jake Beneke, whose family has filed the suit. Engeldinger was a Richfield native and his parents still live in town. The lawsuit alleges Accent Signage managers knew Engeldinger was an unstable and potentially violent person, and should have taken more precautions when firing him. In particular, the suit says Engeldinger should not have been given warning that he was being fired and been allowed to retrieve a gun …

Son of Slain Accent Signage Owner Heads to NYC to Talk Gun Control

Sami Rahamim was among the survivors and family members of shooting victims joining Mayor Bloomberg to 'Demand a Plan' on combating gun violence.

The son of Accent Signage owner Reuven Rahamim traveled to New York City over the weekend to join Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a call for action on gun laws in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, according to WCCO-TV Bloomberg, who co-chairs a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns, invited survivors and family members to New York to help push a “Demand A Plan” effort to rein in deaths and injuries from gun violence. Sami Rahamim, a student at St. Louis Park High School, told WCCO-TV: You start to realize that there's such a huge problem with the accessibility to guns, the wide range of firearms that are available and how lethal they are in today's world—that it's not your grandpa's hunting rifle anymore. …
