(PHOTOS) Holy Angels Boys Tennis Takes on Minneapolis South High in Sections

The Stars' postseason team hopes dimmed at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis.

The Academy of Holy Angels boys tennis team traveled north to Powderhorn Park in south Minneapolis to meet Minneapolis South High in team sectional tournament competition Thursday. The Gallant Tigers got past the Stars five matches to two. Boys tennis has separate individual sections as well.

Athletic directors from Twin Cities schools will discuss the idea May 16, 2013, according to local newspapers. Included are Totino-Grace, Benilde-St. Margaret's, Holy Angels, St. Thomas Academy, Hill Murray, DeLaSalle and Holy Family.

Twin Brothers Play Married Couple at Academy of Holy Angels' 'Hairspray'

Derek and Joey Schwartz have a deep bond, WCCO-TV reported.

There are three more chances to see Academy of Holy Angels seniors Derek and Joey Schwartz in a production of Hairspray on stage at the school's campus in Richfield. The fraternal twin brothers' portrayal of married couple Edna and Wilbur Turnblad got the attention of WCCO-TV, which aired a report Sunday: “We’re like an old married couple anyway, like we bicker at each other,” Joey said. But the scene used to be different. The brothers couldn’t be in plays together or even school together. There was a time it seemed the curtain may close for good. ... Snowy Friday in Richfield: Academy of Holy Angels Has Late Start

Winter's last gasp is mucking up roads and some students' schedules.

Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield will start two hours late on Friday, April 20, 2013, according to KARE11.com, as Minnesota deals with a springtime winter storm. Commuters can expect a tough slog through the snow that has fallen along with rain, sleet and hail over the last 24 hours. Overnight, a snowplow truck caught fire and was fully engulfed on East River Road north of Fridley, according to a scanner report. Holy Angels Announces Trimester II Honor Roll for 2012-13 School Year

Students were placed in one of the three categories depending on their GPA.

Hundreds of students were recently named to the Academy of Holy Angels Trimester II Honor Roll. Students who maintained a 4.000 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.000 scale were named Scholars of Distinction; students who achieve 3.6667 or above earned High Honors; and students who maintained a GPA of 3.2000 receive Honors. Thirty-five resident Richfield students made the list. The entire list can be viewed in the PDF attached to this article in the photo box. Local Figure Skaters Bring Home Another National Championship

The local skaters successfully defended their national title at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships in Plymouth, MI.

Team Braemar's junior synchronized skating team successfully defended its national title this week, winning the gold yet again at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships in Plymouth, MI. The group was in first place following the short program Thursday evening, after skating to music from Bonnie & Clyde. The girls posted their best score of the season, with a 58.57. Friday night saw the free skate portion of the competition, where Team Braemar hit the ice to Cleopatra. The highest combined score of the two events determined the national champion.  The win comes just one month after Team Braemar failed to qualify for the World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Finland, with the Twin Cities skaters ironically …

Holy Angels Wins 'Best Display' at MN Zoo German Day Event

The zoo offers a series of world language days throughout the year.

A team for the Academy of Holy Angels won the Best Display category at the Wednesday, Feb. 6, German Day at the Zoo event at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. The Minnesota Zoo sponsors a series of world language days and invites language students at all levels to attend, according to an AHA press release. Among the events are presentations about the zoo’s collections--delivered in the day’s featured language by upper-level students. Two Holy Angels Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

The winners will be announced in the spring.

Academy of Holy Angels seniors Sean McSweeney and John Peichel have been named finalists in National Merit Scholarship Competition. The designation means that they continue in competition for National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in the spring. Holy Angels Football Players Commit to University Teams

Academy of Holy Angels football players Mikias Alipate and Anthony Baysah have signed NCAA letters of intent to play college football. Alipate will enroll at South Dakota State University, and Baysah will enroll at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
