Four Students Receive STRIVE Scholarships

Students were awarded for attendance and grade improvement.

Editor's Note: The following information was taken from a Richfield Rotary press release. Four Richfield High School students were awarded STRIVE (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) Scholarships from Richfield Rotary for their efforts to improve their attendance and GPAs during the past school year. Each year Richfield Rotary offers the STRIVE mentoring program for high school juniors and seniors. Students are identified by school counselors as having high potential that has not yet realized. Students and mentors meet once a month for programs that teach life skills and scholarships are awarded at the completion of the yearly program. Five Richfield Athletes Make Academic All-Conference Team

Those athletes who maintained a 3.66 GPA or higher made the list.

Richfield to Recognize National Merit Scholarship Winners Friday

Two students will be recognized during Richfield High School's graduation ceremony Friday.

Policarpio will get special recognition during Friday's graduation ceremony for being chosen for various National Merit Scholarship awards. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. With more than 1.5 million entrants (students who take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) from across the country each year, only about 13,000 students being named as winners. Both Hvizdos and Policarpio will attend the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities this fall. Graduation commencement begins at 6 p.m. at the Minneapolis …

Holy Angels Knowledge Bowl Team Places 2nd in State Meet

The team was just a few points shy of taking first.

Editor's Note: The following is an Academy of Holy Angels press release. The Academy of Holy Angels (AHA) Knowledge Bowl team took second place in the state meet—just a few points short of Chaska's Red team—at Cragun's Resort near Brainerd over the April 13-14 weekend. Knowledge Bowl is an interdisciplinary academic competition involving teams of students working together to answer questions on topics like math, science, history, language, literature, music, geography, general information, and current events. More than 1,000 teams competed in Knowledge Bowl statewide; 48 of those qualified to compete in the state tournament.   Team members were: Coaches were AHA teachers Charlie Gorrill and Kristin Vanyo.

Holy Angels Inducts 65 New Members into National Honor Society

The announcement was made in mid-February.

The Academy of Holy Angels (AHA) has inducted 65 new members into the Seraphine Ireland Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS):        Name                                                                         Hometown To qualify for NHS membership, a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.6667 or above, be actively involved in service, display proven leadership qualities, and exhibit the highest level of character. Students who meet the academic requirements for NHS submit a Student Activities Information Form that is reviewed by the AHA faculty selection committee and staff.

PHOTOS: Richfield High Honors its Top Academic Achievers

Richfield High School honored student's academic achievements Monday in the high school auditorium.

Richfield High School (RHS) honored its students' academic achievements Monday night in the high school auditorium. After the national anthem was sung by Isabel Fajardo, RHS principal Dr. Stephen West welcomed students, their families, and their friends. Students were awarded for academic achievment and also for community service and perfect attendance. Several students were recognized for completing more than 100 hours of community service. Congratulations to all the student awardees.

Hitting the Books: Richfield's AVID Programs Helping Close Achievement Gaps

With about 200 participants, the AVID program at Richfield's middle and high schools are experiencing continuous success.

The Richfield Public School District has been working especially hard to close achievement gaps and boost tests scores over the past few years and the school's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is helping schools do just that, according to school administrators. What is AVID? AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success throughout the world. AVID has a direct support structure for first generation college-goers who show desire and determination to achieve their goals.
