The third annual Camp Ojibway 5K and Kids Run will be held May 19 at Hope Presbyterian Church.
Hope Presbyterian Church has run Camp Ojibway in Eden Valley, MN since the summer of 1959, welcoming both young and old camp-goers to the 3.25-acre refuge. From fishing and paddle boating to singing and skits, Camp Ojibway is a summer destination for many Hope Church members as well as many non-parishioners. And while the church underwrites the majority of the costs to put the camp on, a team of faithful members are organizing the third annual Camp Ojibway 5K (CO5K) and Kids Run May 19 to raise more funds. “[The camp] is really near and dear to my heart,” Shelly Nelson, CO5K organizer, told Richfield Patch. “I grew up going to the camp, I worked up there when I was in college and now my kids are going there.” Nelson, a Richfield native and…

The Richfield alum went free agent after NFL Draft weekend.
Last update: 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. After a long NFL Draft weekend, Richfield High School graduate Trevor Olson signed a rookie free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday morning after turning down tryout offers from the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Olson attended Northern Illinois University where he started in every game—setting a school record for most games played. Olson played for three years under Jerry Kill, now the head coach of the University of Minnesota Gophers. Olson, an offensive tackle, is also the eldest son of Richfield High School's Athletic Director Todd Olson. According to the Pioneer Press, Olson felt the Buccaneers had invested more in him and that's how he made his decision. Olson …

The University of Minnesota football coach discusses his road to success and gives advice on how young people can reach their goals during "A Night With Jerry Kill."
A first generation college graduate, University of Minnesota Gophers football head coach Jerry Kill has worked hard all his life. Coming from a family that didn't have much of anything, Kill said he was taught from a very young age that hard work was the only way he could be successful. "There's someone winning and losing everyday," Kill said to eager listeners in the Richfield High School Auditorium Wednesday night. "And I really believe you can out-work anyone. ... It takes no talent at all to be a hard worker." "A Night With Jerry Kill" kicked off a leadership series presented by the Richfield Spartan Foundation and the Richfield Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Richfield Bloomington Credit Union. Having coached at every level …
Richfield's Trevor Olson is in the running to be drafted to the NFL this weekend.
Richfield High School grad and former Spartans football player Trevor Olson has been picked as one of six promising Minnesota prospects going into the NFL Draft, which starts Thursday night. "[Olson is] an experienced four-year starter who was recruited to Northern Illinois by current Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill," Shawn Zobel, a local draft expert, said in a Pioneer Press article. "Trevor Olson is a battle-tested veteran who has the raw size that you look for at the position (6 feet 6, 298 pounds). Olson doesn't have ideal athleticism and may need to kick inside to guard at the next level, but should be given an opportunity either as a late-round pick or as an undrafted free agent." Olson, an offensive tackle, is the eldest son of …

I'm wondering if we need to rethink our belief that the Minnesota Constitution really is harder to change than state laws. We're seeing constitutional amendments precisely because the proposals couldn't make it through the law-making process. In other words, amendment supporters see it as an easier process than one that forces them to go through the governor. So I think it's more accurate to say …   more ›
