Joshua Fuchs Releases Statement on Resignation

Fuchs said his resignation was to ensure his employment and professional direction were "aligned."

After word of his resignation broke out Tuesday night, Richfield High School Principal Joshua Fuchs sent this release to parents and students Wednesday afternoon: To Parents and Students of Richfield High School: On Tuesday morning I informed Dr. Slotterback of my intentions to resign my position at Richfield High School. After informing Dr. Slotterback I took the necessary steps to inform the school staff.  My goal was that you would hear it from me first and I am sorry that you did not hear from me with such an important matter. My decision to resign from this position has been incredibly difficult. I have been so welcomed by the Richfield community and enjoy working with the students and parents.  When I made the promise to stay that …

UPDATED: Joshua Fuchs Resigns As High School Principal

Fuchs will finish out the school year.

Richfield High School Principal Joshua Fuchs resigned from his position this week and will finish out the school year. At the beginning of the school year, Fuchs had every intention of being in the district for the long haul. And after Dr. Stephen West's departure, he went on the record with his intentions. "I’m not going anywhere—I can promise that," he said. "I will be here as long as Richfield wants me here. ... The only reason that I would want to leave here is for retirement." Of course, students took to social media after hearing rumblings of a resignation Tuesday night. Student Steve Guevara tweeted: "Is Mr.Fuchs really leaving? Cause on my momma grave im leaving Richfield and going ova North cuz!" After his tweet garnered questions…

PHOTOS: Richfield High School Celebrates Prom

RHS students dress up and head downtown for Prom 2012 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Richfield High School students were looking excited and ready for an evening of dancing with friends, socializing with classmates, and generally just cutting loose from the daily grind of lectures and homework at Prom 2012 on Saturday night. Prom took place at the Minneapolis Convention Center and the building was as ready for the event as the prom goers were. Balloons and decorations adorned the venue with the several large balloons were being tossed around which seemed reflect the lasers and lights from the DJs in a surreal way.

I'm wondering if we need to rethink our belief that the Minnesota Constitution really is harder to change than state laws. We're seeing constitutional amendments precisely because the proposals couldn't make it through the law-making process. In other words, amendment supporters see it as an easier process than one that forces them to go through the governor. So I think it's more accurate to say …   more ›

'Assassins' Game Comes to Richfield High School

The game is growing nationwide.

After discovering that more than 100 Richfield Public Schools students were engaged in "Assassins"—a game that is becoming more and more popular among kids across the nation—Richfield High School Principal Joshua Fuchs reached out to parents through two e-mails Friday. "Assassins" is a seemingly harmless kids' game that involves a "hit list" of fellow players. Players stalk their targets and use toy guns, such as Nerf guns, to shoot the targets in the long-running game. Fuchs told Richfield Patch he has gotten reports of kids jumping out of cars at stoplights to carry out their missions. The following are the emails sent to parents: E-mail No. 1 Good morning Richfield Community- This is a very serious alert that I want parents to be aware …

I personally never heard of this game while I was a student there in the early 2000s. But, I asked some co-workers about it wondering if they have heard of it other towns and apparently I was the one out of the loop. I don't think the school is deliberately trying to harp on your fun; it's a safety concern. But, please share your feelings. Do you think the school is over-reacting?   more ›
