(UPDATED) Ron Paul's MN Convention Speech Drawing 5th District Interest

Ron Paul is set to speak at the Minnesota Republican convention Friday, and party activists in the Fifth District are preparing for a possible Paul win—with one local activist saying "I get the feeling I'm witnessing history." Paul is poised to make a strong showing in Minnesota after congressional-district conventions gave him 20 of 24 available national delegates. The Texas congressman was denied a speaking slot at the 2008 state convention, but has proven a popular candidate and speaker here since—turning fans away, for example, from an over-capacity speech in Arden Hills shortly before Minnesota's 2012 caucus night. Richfield Soldier Who Saw the Dawn of WWII Dies at 93

Joseph R. Piché, who lived in Richfield for 61 years and the last survivor among a foursome of soldiers from Minnesota credited with firing the first U.S. shots in the European campaign during World War II, died Sunday.

Winter Sports End While More Snow Falls

Richfield, Holy Angels sports teams close out winter season and whatever else you may have missed from the week that was.

The week was marked by yet another winter storm warning for Richfield and much of the state on Saturday and Sunday. Tons of snow came floating down from the sky on Sunday, causing crashes, headaches and frowns across the state. While the weather was the topic of the weekend, much more went on in town throughout the week: Government House Rep. Linda Slocum (D-Richfield) applauded Gov. Mark Dayton for his veto of the Republicans’ budget bill. She called the bill reckless and said the bill would’ve taken Minnesota in the wrong direction. The Neighborhood Files Local resident Brenna Pederson was recognized for her achievements in art at the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSAA) at the Minnesota College of Art and Design (MCAD). Richfield couple dies as a result of car accident injuries, the city council discusses redevelopment plans and multiple property damage incidents. All this and whatever else you may have missed from the week that was.

The Neighborhood Files Richfield couple Verne and Kathie Voss both died after a car crash in South Minneapolis on Jan. 4. Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church held a celebration of life service for its former pastor, Verne Voss, and preschool teacher, Kathie Voss, Saturday evening. The Peace Corps announced the Twin Cities, including Richfield, ranked ninth in the nation as a top volunteer-producing community. Two Richfield residents and volunteers talked with Richfield Patch’s Emily Schmidt about their experiences abroad. Twin Cities bluegrass and folk musicians gather at Richfield’s Homestead Pickin’ Parlor for a jam session every Saturday afternoon. Richfield Husband and Wife Die After Car-Semi Crash; Life Celebration Service Saturday

Retired Pastor Verne Voss and his wife, Kathie, both die after Tuesday car crash in South Minneapolis; church to hold celebration of life Saturday.

Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church will be holding a special service to remember its former pastor, Verne Voss, and former pre-school teacher, Kathie Voss, who died following a car accident Tuesday afternoon. The Richfield couple was struck by a semi-truck while driving in South Minneapolis. Verne Voss died shortly after the accident and Kathie Voss died Thursday morning at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the church. "The congregation is just really shocked right now," Pastor Peter Leyrer said. Verne Voss was pastor at the church from 1986 to 2005, according to Leyrer, who took over for Voss when he retired in 2005. Leyrer added that Kathie Voss was a preschool teacher at the church's school for many years. While Verne and …
