Roger Dick of Richfield Dec. 6, 1936 - April 25, 2013 Roger was a writer, an educator and a mentor to many students over his 30 year career as a teacher at Brooklyn Center High School. His passions included the fine arts, in particular music and literature, his garden and his church, St. Joan of Arc, where he was member of the choir and many committees. Eric Rivers, critically injured, now joins UPS Driver Keith Basinski among the fatalities from Andrew Engeldinger's Sept. 27 rampage at Accent Signage in Minneapolis.
Eric Rivers of St. Paul, a manager who was critically injured in the Sept. 27 shooting at Accent Signage in Minneapolis, has died, the Star Tribune reported. His family decided to take him off life support at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to Fox 9. Here is a statement from Rivers' family, released on a HCMC news blog: “Eric Rivers passed away peacefully last night. We are grateful for the incredible courage displayed by the men and women who responded to the emergency and the wonderful medical team at Hennepin County Medical Center, who cared for Eric. Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District was the subject of a "Better Know A District" segment on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" Thursday. Host Stephen Colbert highlighted New Hope, the Hennepin Avenue Bridge and Prince in his intro, then "sat down ... in a room" with U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison (DFL-MN) for a wide-ranging, even scattershot interview that managed to touch on both Mohammed and Mary Tyler Moore. The "Fighting Fifth" is the second Minnesota district to be profiled on the "Colbert Report" and the 67th overall.
