Each recipient will use the funding to continue services, create a program or help others in need. For example, Richfield's AVID program will use the money to fund a ACT preparation course for high school juniors in the fall, while Headway Emotional Health Services will provide backpacks and school supplies to Richfield familes who use its services and Pregler is organizing a trip to Washington D.C. for fifth-grade students.

The grant money was raised through various events by the Richfield Rotary Club, including its event in October 2011.
