Patrick Olson Receives 'Outstanding Citizen' Award

Members of the Richfield Human Rights Commission appeared before the council Tuesday night to honor the recipient.

Richfield resident Patrick Olson was honored as the 2012 Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award Tuesday night.

The annual award, given by the Richfield Human Rights Commission, honors those who demonstrate a dedication to human rights or work for the improvement of the community. Olson has coached youth sports in Richfield for more than a decade. The award stated that throughout his coaching he has made sure to include all players regardless of their skill level, fostering human understanding and tolerance. He also donates his DJ company services to local school events.

“I was really surprised when my mother-in-law nominated me for this,” Olson said after accepting the award. “I’m grateful for receiving this award. … I want to say a special thanks to my family because without them I wouldn’t be able to do what I do.”
