Minnehaha Creek cleanup volunteers this Sunday will receive a free breakfast, barbecue lunch, T-shirt, water bottle and Leinenkugel's Canoe Paddler beer (for those 21 or older).

The 2013 Minnehaha Creek Cleanup is arriving just in time to aid with storm recovery.

The seventh annual cleanup takes from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Lake Hiawatha Park (2701 E. 44th St., Minneapolis). Planners aim to pick up trash and gather debris around Minnehaha Creek and the Chain of Lakes that the storm churned up.

“We're hoping to pick up more than two tons of trash and leave our treasured water resources looking better than they did before the storms!” a Minnehaha Creek Watershed District news release stated.

(Parts of Richfield belong to the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.)

The event offers plenty of fun to go along with the work. There will be children’s activities, a bike check and prizes. Volunteers receive a free breakfast, barbecue lunch, T-shirt, water bottle and free Leinenkugel's Canoe Paddler beer for those 21 or older.
