Tourney Time For Spartans, Stars Spikers

Richfield, Holy Angels volleyball teams play in weekend tournaments.

It was tourney time last weekend for both the (RHS) and (AHA) volleyball teams as both squads played in suburban brackets on Friday and Saturday.

Richfield Volleyball

The finished 13th in the Coon Rapids Tournament on Saturday, going 2-2 to improve to 4-3 overall.

After losing its first two pool matches to Grand Rapids and Mahtomedi, the Spartans rebounded to win both of their playoff contests against DeLaSalle and Big Lake for a successful finish to the day.

Individual statistics were not available. Richfield plays in the Farmington Tournament Sept. 17.

Holy Angels Volleyball

Going 3-2 over Friday and Saturday, the won the Bronze Bracket championship of the Visitation Tournament with wins over Mora, St. Paul Highland Park and Mounds Park Academy.

The Stars improved to 4-5 with the weekend set, the next tourney for Holy Angels will be in Blaine on Oct. 1.

Richfield Boys Soccer

Losses to Henry Sibley (6-2) and Blake (3-1) last Thrusday and Saturday, respectively, dropped the to 1-5 entering this week. leads the Spartans with three goals, with Obsa Ali claiming one score this autumn.

Richfield Girls Soccer

The Richfield girls soccer team headed into this week with a 0-3 record after a 7-0 loss at Henry Sibley last Thursday. Individual statistics were not available.

Holy Angels Cross-Country

The Holy Angels cross-country teams competed at the Ron Kretsch Invitational at Basset Creek Park in Crystal on Saturday, with the girls taking fifth and the boys placing ninth.

Emily Vigil led the Stars girls with a fifth-place run in nine minutes flat, with Laura Bagwell taking 18th in 9:21. James Douglas was the top boys finisher placing 57th in 11:37.

Holy Angels Girls Soccer

With three-straight victories, the Holy Angels girls soccer team entered the Class A poll at No. 10 this week following a 3-1 defeat of Holy Family Catholic last Wednesday in Waconia.

Therese Wichmann leads the Stars with three goals, with Katie Budin and Bridget Schoffman each netting two scores apiece thus far.

Holy Angels Boys Soccer

A third-straight tie brought the Holy Angels boys soccer team to 2-1-3 on the season as the Stars locked up Robbinsdale Armstrong, 1-1, on Saturday.

Shon Jordan's six goals top the team, with Sam Brenny and Charlie Koontz logging for and three goals, respectively, through six games.

Richfield Girls Tennis

The Richfield girls tennis team topped Tartan, 6-1, last Thursday to improve to 3-3 on the year. Individual statistics were not available.

Holy Angels Girls Tennis

A 6-1 defeat of New Prague last Thursday gave the Holy Angels girls tennis team a 5-4 record entering this week. Individual statistics were not available.
