Tough Night For Stars Hoops, Spartans Girls Hockey

Holy Angels swept by Chanhassen, while Richfield falls hard to Mahtomedi.

Friday night was a tough one for Holy Angels basketball teams as well as the Richfield girls hockey squad as neither of the three were able to muster up a victory in their respective games.

Richfield Girls Hockey: Mahtomedi 7, Spartans 1

A four-goal third period turned a close game into a rout as the Mahtomedi girls hockey team topped Richfield, 7-1, in a Classic Suburban Conference matchup at the St. Croix Rec Center in Stillwater, MN.

The score was tied, 1-1, after the first period as forward Alyson Niesen recorded the Spartans' lone goal of the contest at 14:18 of the opening frame. However, it was all Zephyrs from there as the hosts launched 54 shots on goaltender Rebecca Henrickson in the Richfield net, scoring twice in the second period and four more times in the final frame.

Richfield managed just 15 shots in the game and dropped to 4-10-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Next up for the Spartans is a trip to Polar Arena to face North St. Paul Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.

Holy Angels Boys Basketball: Chanhassen 45, Stars 42

The Holy Angels boys basketball team could not overcome a 26-23 halftime deficit in losing by three points, 45-42, at Chanhassen in a Missota Conference tilt.

Center Damon Woods led the Stars with 13 points in the low scoring affair and was one of just two players from either side to record double digits in points.

The loss left Holy Angels with an 0-2 record in the Missota and 4-9 mark overall, with a home game against Farmington up next on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Holy Angels Girls Basketball: Chanhassen 70, Stars 49

The Holy Angels girls basketball team was defeated, 70-49, at home versus Chanhassen to fall to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in Missota play.

Individual results from the contest were not available.

The Stars next travel to Farmington for another Missota matchup at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
