Stars, Spartans Hoopsters Go 3-for-4 Tuesday

Richfield sweeps South St. Paul, Holy Angels splits with Northfield.

The and basketball teams came within a field goal of being perfect on Tuesday night with three of the four squads found success on the hardcourt against conference opponents as the regular season entered its final stretch.

Holy Angels Boys Basketball: Stars 47, Northfield 44

The Holy Angels boys basketball team earned its first win of the season in Missota Conference play with a 47-44 defeat of visiting Northfield.

Eight Stars players scored in all during the victory, led by 14 points from Nick Miller and 13 points from Damon Woods, as the contest remained tight throughout before the hosts held on for the triumph.

Holy Angels, now 5-18 overall and 1-10 in Missota play, travel to play conference-leading Chaska on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Richfield Boys Basketball: Spartans 87, South St. Paul 45

The built a 56-25 hafltime lead and cruised to an 87-45 victory at South St. Paul to improve to 16-7 overall and 10-4 in Classic Suburban Conference (CSC) play.

Dan Beyel led all scorers with 17 points, pacing a Spartans offense that saw 12 players score in all with Shawn Bear recording 11 points as Daron Garvis and Jared Noonan chipped in 10 points apiece.

Richfield hosts St. Paul Johnson in a non-conference contest at 7 p.m. Thursday before traveling to Henry Sibley 24 hours later.

Richfield Girls Basketball: Spartans 74, South St. Paul 38

A 74-38 home win versus South St. Paul pulled the into a second-place tie with North St. Paul in the CSC standings as both teams now share a 10-3 conference record with one circuit game remaining.

The Spartans built a 48-14 halftime lead en route to the 36-point victory as Jessica January led all scorers with 24 points with teammates Hannah Wise and Sierra Ford-Washington logging 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Richfield travels to Waconia to play Holy Family in a non-conference matchup on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to take on Henry Sibley at 7 p.m. Friday in its final pre-playoff game.

Holy Angels Girls Basketball: Northfield 49, Stars 48

By the narrowest of margins, the Holy Angels girls basketball team fell into a last-place tie with Northfield after losing at the Raiders, 49-48.

Neither team held a lead of comfort in the contest before the final horn blew to proclaim the hosts as the victor and pull both teams even at 1-11 in the Missota this season.

Mary Margaret Duffy and tied for the Stars' scoring lead with nine points apiece as Holy Angels now prepares to host Chaska in the last game of Missota slate at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
