Spartans Win, Stars Lose on Hardcourt

Richfield hoopsters sweep Mahtomedi as Holy Angels drop two to Shakopee; Stars boys hockey ties New Prague.

Friday night was a good one for the Richfield basketball teams, yet the news was not as good at Holy Angels as the Stars hoopsters both lost while the boys hockey team forged a tie in Missota Conference play.

Richfield Girls Basketball: Spartans 77, Mahtomedi 54

The improved to 19-4 overall and 9-3 in the Classic Suburban Conference with a 77-54 defeat of Mahtomedi at home.

led all scorers with 32 points, while Spartans teammates Bryann Guyton and Hannah Wise logged 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Richfield hosts South St. Paul at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Richfield Boys Basketball: Spartans 65, Mahtomedi 53

A 65-53 win at Mahtomedi improved the to 15-7 overall and 9-4 in conference play.

The Spartans took a 45-29 halftime lead before cruising to the win behind a game-high 16 points from Mike Harris, with teammates Andrew Lindquist and Dan Ferrazzo recording 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Richfield travels to South St. Paul at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Holy Angels Boys Hockey: Stars 5, New Prague 5

The Holy Angels boys hockey team closed out its regular season with a 5-5 tie at New Prague.

CJ Smith, Trevor Meador, Mario Bianchi, Joseph LaBate and Cullen Hurley scored for the Stars, with Brett Pierce making 34 saves in goal.

Holy Angels now prepares for the section playoffs, set to begin at a yet-to-be determined time next week, after posting an overall regular-season record of 16-8-1; the Stars won the Missota Conference title with a 12-1-1 mark in circuit play.

Holy Angels Girls Basketball: Shakopee 57, Stars 43

The Holy Angels girls basketball team suffered a 57-43 loss to Shakopee to fall to 5-19 overall and 1-11 in the Missota.

scored 20 points for the Stars, who could not dig their way out of a 28-15 halftime deficit in the defeat.

Holy Angels travels to Northfield Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Holy Angels Boys Basketball: Shakopee 45, Stars 36

The Holy Angels boys basketball team remained winless in Missota play this season with a 45-36 loss at Shakopee.

Dropping to 4-18 overall and 0-10 in the conference this season, the Stars were led by Damon Woods, who scored a game-high 14 points with teammate Jordan Dembley chipping in 13 points.

Holy Angels hosts Northfield on Tuesday night.
