Richfield's Petersen No-Hits Polars

Spartans sophomore baffles North St. Paul to carry baseball team to victory.

This week has featured three of the most ideal days of the spring sports season so far and sports teams from both (RHS) and the (AHA) made the most of it with a full schedule of events.

Richfield Baseball: Petersen Tosses A No-Hitter

Pitcher Andrew Petersen's curveball baffled host North St. Paul as the sophomore hurled his first varsity no-hitter as the  blanked the Polars, 3-0, in a crucial Classic Suburban Conference (CSC) matchup on Wednesday.

Petersen allowed only one ball to be hit into the outfield in earning his no-no, while striking out seven North batters. Joe Griffin gave the Spartans all the offense they would need with a pair of home runs—a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run bomb in the fifth. 

The win was the Spartans' third in a row. On Tuesday, P.J. Peterson's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home Dan Beyel and clinched a 4-3 victory for Richfield against visiting CSC opponent South St. Paul on Tuesday.

The Spartans improved to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the circuit with the back-to-back victories and are tied with St. Thomas Academy for second place in the CSC.

Holy Angels Baseball: Stars Split Mid-Week Matchups

The split its mid-week Missota Conference road matchups on Wednesday and Thursday, with a 10-6 loss at Farmington on Tuesday before a 13-1 win at Shakopee on Thursday night.

Lucas Long currently leads the Stars with a .483 batting average after going 5-for-5 at the plate while pitching a five-hit, 12-strikeout complete game over the Sabers.

Holy Angels is currently in third place in the Missota with a 5-4 circuit record; the Stars are 5-5 overall.

Richfield Softball: Spartans 4, Simley 1

A 4-1 defeat of CSC rival Simley in Inver Grove Heights, MN on Wednesday improved the to 8-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans are slated to play at Tartan on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

Holy Angels Softball: Stars Fall To 3-9

The fell to Farmington (4-0) and to Shakopee (19-0) on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at to drop to 3-9 overall and 2-8 in the Missota.

Richfield Track And Field: Spartans Boys, Girls, Third in Conference Meet

The both finished third in a CSC meet on Tuesday. The boys recorded 26 points, the girls tallied 50 points. Individual results were not available.

Holy Angels Track And Field: Stars Seventh, Eighth at Conference Relays

The Holy Angels track and field teams competed at the Missota Relays on Tuesday, with the boys scoring 83 points to finish seventh and the girls tallying 73 points to take eighth.

Richfield Boys Golf: Spartans Compete at Oak Glen

The Richfield boys golf team took eighth in a Classic Suburban meet at Oak Glen Country Club on Wednesday with a score of 361. Individual scores were not available.

Holy Angels Boys Golf: Stars 14th at Nelson Invitational

The Holy Angels boys golf team finished 14th at the Nelson Invitational at the Ridges of Sand Creek with a score of 336. Individual scores were not available.

Holy Angels Girls Golf: Stars Seventh in Missota Meet

The Holy Angels girls golf team scored a 420 to take seventh place at a Missota meet at Stonebrook Golf Course on Tuesday. Individual scores were not available.

Holy Angels Boys Tennis: Stars Win First Two Matches

The Holy Angels boys tennis team defeated Farmington, 5-2, on Tuesday, then topped Chanhassen, 6-1, on Wednesday, for its first two wins of the season before losing by a score of 4-3 to Shakopee on Thursday to fall to 2-4 on the year. Individual results were not available.

Richfield Boys Tennis: Sibley 6, Spartans 1

The lost to Henry Sibley, 6-1, on Wednesday. Individual results were not available.

Holy Angels Boys Lacrosse: Chaska/Chanhassen 15, Stars 9

Playing in its first game in a week, the Holy Angels boys lacrosse team lost 15-9 at Chaska/Chanhassen on Thursday night. 

The contest was tied, 6-6, at halftime, before the hosts threw in nine goals in the second half to surge to victory.

Stars statistics were not made available. Holy Angels dropped to 4-3 overall with the loss.

Results were not available for scheduled meets involving the Richfield girls golf team on Tuesday and Wednesday.
