Richfield Resident Named to Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame

Angela Rieger was inducted into the Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame in late October 2011.

Augsburg College alumnus and current Richfield resident Angela Rieger was inducted into the 2011 class of the college's Athletic Hall of Fame for her contributions as a hockey and volleyball player.

Hockey

According to a college press release, Rieger was a key member of Auggie hockey squads that won the 1998-99 and 1999-00 MIAC championships, while advancing to the first-ever Division III national tournament, the American Women’s
College Hockey Alliance finals in Boston in 2000.

She was also a three-time All-MIAC selection and named MIAC Player of the Year twice.

Volleyball

As an outside hitter in volleyball, she was named All-MIAC in both 1999 and 2000, while earning Lutheran Brotherhood Lutheran College All-America honorable-mention honors in 2000, according to the release. She also remains the only player to ever record more than 1,000 kills in the school's history.
