Postponements Plague Richfield, Holy Angels Sports Squads

In the midst of a very un-springlike week, several Richfield sports teams have been forced to postpone games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, yet a few Spartans squads were able to squeeze their contests in despite the low temperatures and precipitation.

Postponed/Canceled Contests: Tuesday And Wednesday

Postponed and canceled area varsity contests on Tuesday and Wednesday included: Holy Angels boys tennis (now May 9), baseball (May 2), softball (May 2), girls lacrosse (May 9) and girls golf (May 3); Richfield boys golf (April 21 and 27), boys tennis (April 18), boys golf (April 21), baseball (April 22) and softball (April 21).

Richfield Track And Field: Spartans Girls Third, Boys Fourth At Mahtomedi 

The contended with the cold as they competed at the Heidi Kunz Invitational at Mahtomedi on Tuesday.

The Spartans girls took third with 124 points, led by winning time of 15.38 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 48.83 in the 300-meter hurdles along with a victorious leap of 17 feet, 4.75 inches in the long jump.

also reeled in a first-place finish on pole vault with a fling of 10-6.

The Richfield 4x800-meter relay team took second, as did individuals Tia Rowe in the long jump (15-11) and Chakia Hall-Watley (32-4). Placing third for the Spartans girls were: (7-6) in pole vault, Rowe in the 400-meter dash (1 minute, 5.09 seconds), Hannah Olson (5:47.49) in the 1600-meter run and the the 4x400-meter relay team.

The boys placed fourth with 104.5 points, with first-place finishes from the 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay teams and the 4x100-meter relay quartet taking second.

Individually, Jose Romero took second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 42.21 as did Jordan Sefon (19-9.5) in the long jump and Tyler Lowthian (43-11) in shot put; Collin Randolph came in third in the 800-meter run in 2:15.64, a position matched by (10-6) in pole vault and Cassius Cox (37-10) in triple jump.

Richfield Boys Tennis: Spartans Fall To 1-5

The Richfield boys tennis team lost 6-1 at Classic Suburban Conference (CSC) rival South St. Paul on Tuesday to drop to 1-5 on the season.

Individual results were not available. The Spartans host conference foe Hill-Murray at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Richfield Girls Golf: Richfield Second At Conference Meet

With a team score of 189, the Richfield girls golf team placed second at the CSC meet at Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale, MN on Wednesday.

Individual results were not available. The Spartans travel to Inverwood Golf Course in Inver Grove Heights, MN for another conference meet April 26.
