PHOTOS: Richfield Softball Improves to 3-0

Spartans put up nine runs in fifth inning en route to 11-5 defeat of Tartan on Monday.

With an 11-5 defeat of visiting Classic Suburban Conference (CSC) rival Tartan on Monday, the improved to 3-0 on the young season and remain tied with North St. Paul atop the circuit standings.

The Titans took the initial lead on a solo home run in the top of the second inning, however, back-to-back doubles from Bryann Guyton and Sophie Pulice followed by an RBI single from Courtney Wood drove home pinch-runner Danielle Jones and Pulice to give the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into the third inning.

Tartan tied the count at 2-2 in the top of the fifth before Richfield came in within a run game ending plays by using a combination of clutch hitting and several Titans errors to log nine runs in the bottom of the frame, capped off by Carly Klass' home run that made the score 11-2 Spartans.

Klass also hurled a complete game and pitched through some wildness in the sixth and seventh innings as Tartan managed to push three runs across over the final two stanzas.

With its third victory in as many tries, Richfield now prepares for its first road game of the season at conference foe Henry Sibley at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
