PHOTOS: Richfield Faculty Tops Students in Fire 'N' Ice Broomball Game

A 9-4 victory is the second in a row for faculty and 24th overall in 31-year history of the event.

For the second-straight year, the faculty defeated the top student team in the annual broomball game, claiming a 9-4 victory at the during Fire 'N' Ice spirit week on Wednesday night.

The faculty never trailed in the contest as Mike "The Hack" Harris put his team up 1-0 in the early goings and the students never pulled even again.

Matt "The Monster" Mosley, Chris "The Sundevil" Kaus and Jeff "The Hitman" Denesen all scored twice for the faulty, with Kim "The Hammer" Niederluecke and Julie "Laser" Lentz both notching a goal apiece for the victors.

The students were represented by the Star Warriors, which won the senior championship game, a contest that preceeded the student/faculty showdown, by a 1-0 score over the Chiefs on the strength of a lone tally from Kyle Maloney.

Yet, the Star Warriors were not able to become the eighth student team to defeat the faculty as two goals by Paul "Vader" Youngblom and a score apiece from Jay "Solo" Reed and Derek "Ackbar" Pederson were not enough to match their opponent's offensive output.

Despite a last gasp on account of the students, who flooded the rink with more than 20 players from the combined Chiefs and Star Warriors squads in the final two minutes, the faculty went on to prevail for the 24th time overall as goaltender Dave "Brickwall" Boie stood tall against the final onslaught.

Other members of the winning faculty team included: Matt "Superman" Ziedler, Steve "The Professor" Gothmann, Tracie "Chippin' In" Dale, Gretchen "Top Shelf" Gifford, Todd "El Hefe" Olson, Deb "Fooseball" Pflipsen and Laura "The Lady" Harris.

Fire 'N' Ice week wraps up with Friday morning, which will crown one senior boy as Fire 'N' Ice King, and the winter on Saturday evening.
