VEAP Provides School Supplies to Richfield, Area Children in Need

VEAP is accepting school supply donations and registering children in need of support.

VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) is now accepting school supply donations and registering children in need of supplies for the 2011-12 school year.

Children in kindergarten through Grade 12 who live in Richfield, Edina, Bloomington and South Minneapolis are eligible to receive the free supplies. In addition, students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2011 and no older than 18 and the household must be in financial need.

Once your children are pre-registered, a pick-up date and time will be scheduled. The following is the information needed for pick-up:

  • Head of household photo ID;
  • Official mail addressed to head of household dated no later than July 1, 2011;
  • If a child has not been registered with VEAP in 2011, bring an original document such as a birth certificate or social security card to the pick-up appointment.

To register for free supplies, you must call 952-888-9616. All children must be registered by 6 p.m. Aug. 11. No walk-in or in-person registrations will be accepted.

Further, new school supply donations are being accepted until Aug. 15 and the following items are being taken:

  • Rulers;
  • Crayons (24-count boxes);
  • Erasers;
  • Glue Sticks;
  • Glue Bottles;
  • Dry erase markers;
  • Composition notebooks;
  • Loose-leaf paper;
  • Backpacks;
  • Spiral notebooks;
  • Two-pocket folders;
  • Pencil pouches and boxes;
  • Blue or black ink pens;
  • Colored pencils;
  • Markers;
  • Highlighters;
  • Scissors.
