Holy Angels Soccer Denied State Berths

Stars boys, girls fall in sectional championship matchups on Tuesday.

The girls and boys soccer teams were both stopped short of a trip to the state tournament after both squads were defeated in the championship round of their respective sectionals.

Stars Boys Soccer

The sixth-ranked and third-seeded Holy Angels boys soccer team was defeated 2-1 in overtime by third-ranked and top-seeded St. Paul Academy at St. Paul Central High School in the Section 3A title game on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Stars season came to an end with a 13-4-3 record.

Stars Girls Soccer

Blake, the second-ranked and top-seeded team in Section 3A shutout the sixth-ranked and third-seeded by a 1-0 score in the championship round in Hopkins on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Stars season concluded with a 10-6-3 record.

Spartans Cross-Country

The both finished fifth in the Classic Suburban Conference championship meet, held at the St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park on Tuesday.

while leading the Spartans girls in the 4,000-meter race in a time of 15 minutes, 32.7 seconds, while Lucas Blanchard paced the boys with a 5,000-meter time of 18:05.1.

Stars Cross-Country

The Holy Angels boys and girls cross-country teams both finished eighth in their Missota Conference championship meets on Tuesday. Individual results were not made available.

Section 3AA Girls Tennis Individual Tournament

Selected members of the Holy Angels and Richfield girls tennis teams competed in the Section 3AA Individual Tournament last week.

Holy Angels' Rachel Schneider claimed a third-place finish in the singles' competition, winning four of five matches that included a concluding victory over Visitation's Lily Foley. Schneider's teammate, Jackie Hartmann won one match before succumbing in the quarterfinals.

The Stars' tandem of Alexa Snow and Grace Quiring won their opening round before falling in the quarterfinals, while Madeline Lomauro/Nicole Brekken lost in the first round.

and Laurel Youngquist were both defeated in the opening round of the singles bracket, as were the duos of / and /Rachel Youngquist.

Spartans Volleyball

A regular season-ending 3-1 loss to visiting Simley on Tuesday dropped the to 10-16 overall and 6-8 in the Classic Suburban.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Spartans now await their seeding and first-round matchup for the Section 4AA Tournament that is slated to begin on Oct. 26.

Stars Volleyball

The Holy Angels volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Chaska on Monday night.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Stars went 10-16 in its pre-playoff slate, going 1-6 in Missota play. Next up for the team is the Section 3AAA Tournament that begins on Oct. 26.
