Richfield Whiz Kids: Michona Johns

Richfield Patch honors a Richfield High School Whiz Kid for her dedication to reducing the district's carbon footprint.

Richfield Patch Whiz Kid of the Week:

Michona Johns

  • 18 years old
  • (RHS)
  • Accomplishment: Johns wrote and received a grant asking for funding to begin a composting program throughout the Richfield Public School District.
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Johns is the leader of the O'Ambassadors student group at RHS, which is a group dedicated to improve the world through volunteering and educating peers on social justice issues. The grant she received in December 2010 is being put to use now as she and other group members, are working to educate elementary school children how to compost. As a result of these efforts, the district will be able to reduce waste on a daily basis and help reduce its carbon footprint.

Johns was nominated by Jen Turri, Karah Holle and Stacie Nielsen; all faculty members at RHS.
