Richfield to Participate in 'International Walk to School Day'

As part of the do.town initiative, Richfield, Edina and Bloomington is participating in the event.

Oct. 5, 2011 is International Walk (or Bike) to School Day and Richfield is joining its fellow do.town partners, Edina and Bloomington, as part of its healthy living initiatives within the city, according to a press release.

Hundreds of elementary and middle school students, their parents and city officials in more than 40 countries are expected to participate in the walking and biking day.

"Walk to School" events such as Wednesdays walk aim to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community, according to the release.
