Richfield S.T.E.M. PTO Unveils New Playground

The parent committee raised $250,000 to replace the old playground with a new, safer equipment.

After nearly a year of planning and fundraising, the Richfield S.T.E.M. School PTO unveiled the school's new playground to the public Monday night.

Before being rebranded as the S.T.E.M. school in 2010, the former Richfield Intermediate School housed third-, fourth- and fifth-graders, and at one time,  sixth-graders. Now that the building is home to kindergarten through Grade 5 students, parents had concerns about the safety of the playground equipment for the younger students and took action.

"We have some kids as young as four years old now," Lisa Randolph, a member of S.T.E.M.'s PTO, told Richfield Patch last summer. "We need to make the playground safer for those little kids."

The PTO raised roughly $250,000 for the project through various fundraisers, such as the Back to School 5K last August and partnerships with various local businesses and restaurants.

To check and test out the new playground, swing by the school grounds at 7020 12th Ave. S.
