Holy Angels Cancels School, No Announcement from Richfield Public Schools Yet

Richfield Public Schools hadn't made an announcement early Sunday evening.

Holy Angels has canceled all classes for Monday, Jan. 27 due to extreme cold.

Yet another "polar vortex" has forced Twin Cities schools across the board cancel school for Monday.

Most districts came down with the decision around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, as 30 mph winds ripped throughTwin Cities, blowing snow and plugging roads.

While that's caused the problems for Sunday night, Monday morning's situation looks even more dire. Winds at sustained speeds of around 25 mph are expected with temperatures in the teens to 20 below zero, creating wind chill effects of 40 below zero.

Under those conditions, exposed skin can freeze in less than five minutes.

The district informed parents earlier this weekend it would come through with a decision about Monday's school day by Sunday evening. It didn't wait, joining dozens of districts in canceling school Sunday afternoon.
