Holy Angels Boys Soccer Wins Missota Championship

Stars remain unbeaten in conference play with 2-0 win at main circuit rival Northfield on Tuesday.

The boys soccer team won the Missota Conference championship on a Tuesday that also saw the and Holy Angels girls tennis teams eliminated in the opening round of the Section 3AA Tournament.

A 2-0 defeat of top conference rival Northfield on the road on Tuesday clinched the Missota championship for Class A's sixth-ranked Holy Angels boys soccer team.

Charlie Koontz and Jack Miller scored for the champs, with goalkeeper Adam Roloff standing on his head to make 17 saves against the blistering Northfield attack to earn the clean sheet and the title-claiming triumph.

The victory gave the Stars a 6-0 circuit record, 1 1/2 games better than Shakopee and two better than the Raiders with just one game remaining.

Koontz, Shon Jordan, Lucas Ciabattoni and Sam Brenny are all tied for the Stars' scoring lead with eight goals apiece entering this week.

Holy Angels closes out the regular season with a conference finale versus Chaska at home on Thursday and a road game at Rochester Century on Saturday.

Richfield Girls Tennis

The Richfield girls tennis team lost its opening-round match of the sectionals by a 6-1 score to Visitation in Mendota Heights on Tuesday, ending the team season for the Spartans.

Richfield went 3-9 on the regular season and 1-5 in Classic Suburban Conference matches and held the 13th seed into the sectional bracket against the fourth-seeded Blazers.

Individual statistics were not made available. Next up for selected team members is the 3AA individual playoffs, set to start on Oct. 14.

Holy Angels Girls Tennis

After concluding the regular season with five-straight losses, the No. 9 seed Holy Angels girls tennis team was narrowly defeated, 4-3, by eighth-seeded Henry Sibley in its 3AA opener on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not made available. Next up for selected team members is the 3AA individual playoffs, set to start on Oct. 14.

Richfield Boys Soccer

The 's four-game unbeaten streak came to an end in a 5-1 loss to Henry Sibley on Tuesday, dropping the squad to 3-10-2 overall.

The Spartans take on Classic Suburban Conference foe Mahtomedi on Thursday in its final pre-playoff matchups; Richfield currently owns a 2-6-1 conference record.

Heading into Thursday's game, Alex Viera led the team with 10 goals, followed by Obsa Ali with three scores and Carlos Quechuleno with two tallies.

Richfield Girls Soccer

The losing streak hit 10 games for the and the goal-less drought extended to eight contests in a 2-0 loss to visiting Henry Sibley in the Classic Suburban finale on Tuesday.

Since a season-opening 4-2 win versus Minneapolis Roosevelt, the Spartans have scored just one goal in amassing a 1-10 overall record and a final 0-10 mark in the conference.

Individual statistics were not made available. Richfield concludes the regular season at home against Minneapolis Washburn on Thursday.

Holy Angels Girls Soccer

Amidst a five-game winless string, the steps into its final regular-season matchup holding onto a No. 5 ranking in the Class A poll.

The Stars have not won since Sept. 24, sporting two ties and three losses in five games since that include a 1-1 deadlock at Shakopee on Sept. 29, including a 2-1 loss at Missota champion Northfield on Tuesday.

Holy Angels hosts Chaska to wrap the pre-sectional slate on Thursday.

Therese Wichmann and Bridget Schoffman are tied for the Stars goal-scoring lead with seven goals apiece. Schoffman scored Holy Angels' lone goal at Northfield.

Richfield Girls Swimming and Diving

After defeating South St. Paul, 94-84, on Sept. 29, the Richfield girls swimming and diving team won its Spartan Invitational meet on Oct. 1, earning 602 points at the pool to top Robbinsdale Cooper (542 points) and Menomonie, Wis. (443).

Claiming individual first-place finishes were: (100-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley) and Courtney Miller (1-meter diving).

The Richfield 200-yard medley relay team of Marge Schroeder, Pospisil, and Cori Benson also took first place in its event.

Richfield Volleyball

A four-game losing skid ended for the as the Spartans won 3-1 at Mahtomedi on Tuesday to even its record at 9-9 overall and 5-5 in the Classic Suburban. Individual statistics were not made available.

Holy Angels Volleyball

A five-game match victory over visiting Missota rival Farmington on Sept. 29  and a 1-3 appearance in the Blaine Tournament on Oct. 1 put the Holy Angels volleyball team's record at 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Individual statistics were not made available.

Scores and statistics were not reported for the Holy Angels cross-country team's appearance in the Swain Invitational in Duluth.
