Holy Angels Announces New Head Track Coach

Jim Gunderson is a Holy Angels social studies and physical education teacher.

The Academy of Holy Angels (AHA) has named Jim Gunderson as its head track coach beginning with the 2013 spring season.

Gunderson is a Holy Angels social studies and physical education teacher.

Gunderson has coaching experience in several sports in both schools and in community organizations. He currently is the associate head football coach and defensive coordinator for Holy Angels. He also coached football in several positions at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, and at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights. In addition he has served as a baseball coach at both Mater Dei and at Simley. He has been active in developing Holy Angels’ strength and conditioning program and coached strength and conditioning at Simley. Outside of the high school setting, he has served as a youth camp director, coach, and fitness instructor for the YMCA.

As part of his work at Holy Angels, Gunderson has led the school’s Faith in Action program, which incorporates prayer, service, and leadership development into the school’s sports and activities.

Gunderson is a graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

“Jim Gunderson is an ideal fit for the position of head track coach,” says AHA Athletic Director Michael Kautzman. “Jim has extensive coaching experience, a great relationship with our students, and a good understanding of the school’s mission. He brings leadership ability, and he has been instrumental in growing our strength and conditioning program. In addition he is assembling a staff what will help link the track program with other sports programs at AHA.”
