Former Richfield Teacher Receives 'Outstanding Professional Award'

Former Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Donna Butterfield was recently honored at the MAFCS State Conference.

Donna Butterfield of Richfield, MN, has been named the 2013 Outstanding Professional for the Minnesota Affiliate of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (MAFACS). Donna was honored at the MAFCS State Conference, which was held February 8-9, 2013, at the Marriott Hotel in Bloomington, MN.

The Outstanding Professional Award is given each year to a MAFCS member who has demonstrated outstanding support and accomplishments in the field of Family and Consumer Science.

“Donna has a very special and insightful passion for our profession. She exemplifies the qualities and character of a creative and dedicated FACS professional.” a quote from Marian Dombrock, Award and Recognition/ Scholarship Committee. Donna serves as MAFCS President-Elect, recently co-wrote three AAFCS national award nominations, provided leadership in planning and coordinating a successful MAFCS Gala Celebration and meeting last May, and she worked diligently on the Cooking with Class II cookbook. She also designed and maintains the present MAFCS website.

She is currently planning and developing the program for the second annual Gala Celebration event. Donna has served MAFCS as President in 2011-12, Vice President-Education Co-Chair, VP of Program for the 2007 MAFCS conference, and is a former FACSEd president. She has attended three Leadership Conferences held by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Indianapolis, Indiana and Arlington, Virginia. She is a distinguished Teacher of the Year and presented her program at the AAFCS conference in Milwaukee. She was recognized as a Centennial Honoree as one of the 100 professionals who have contributed to the furtherance of Family and Consumer Sciences. Donna was also recognized as one of the “Top Nine” Fox 9 News Teachers in 2008. In addition, Donna coordinated a tour of Best Buy headquarters in 2005 as part of the AAFCS conference held here in Minneapolis. The MAFCS holiday cards are created by Donna. Donna has endless energy and numerous talents which she has given, and continues to give, to her professional organization.
