Five Richfield, Holy Angels Students Named as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Five students from local schools are in line to possibly receive one of 8,300 scholarships.

A total of five students from both and the were recently named as semifinalists for the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program competition:

  • Stephen E. Rabb, Holy Angels;
  • Hannah M. Shea, Holy Angels;
  • Bridget P. Williams, Holy Angels;
  • Thomas D. Hvizdos, Richfield;
  • Joshua D. Policarpio.

The students were five of 16,000 chosen as semifinalists for the nonprofit program based on outstanding academics.

However, in order to continue on, several other requirements must be met. Ninety percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, according to a program press release. There are 8,300 scholarships for the available at the end of the competition, equaling more than $34 million.
