Lyndale Gardens Continues to Move Forward: 2013 Redevelopment Recap

Looking back on 2013, Patch recaps major redevelopment happenings including the proposed development at Holy Angels and new tenants at Lyndale Station.

As 2013 winds down, Richfield Patch is taking a look back at some of the top and most read stories of the year.

And there's no doubt that all the redevelopment happenings got the people's attention. So, without further ado, take a trip down memory lane with Patch:

Lakewinds Natural Foods begins building at Lyndale Gardens

Lyndale Gardens is probably one of the most exciting redevelopment projects to come to Richfield in the past few years. Developer The Cornerstone Group has taken a former Richfield landmark, Lyndale Garden Center, and has begun its transformation into what will hopefully by a lively town center.

Lakewinds Natural Foods, a co-op grocers, was the first tenant to sign on with the project in late 2012, and began construction on the new store over the summer. Lakewinds is slated to open in the spring of 2014.

No other tenants have been announced, however, The Cornerstone Group is working on courting a potential restaurant tenant.

Holy Angels considers land sale to developer

One of the more recent redevelopment projects to get a look is proposed for the front lawn of the Academy of Holy Angels.

A developer reportedly offered the private school almost $6 million—about six times more than the assessed value—for a strip of land along Nicollet Avenue at 66th Street for retail development. School officials believe the sale would allow the institution to start an endowment fund, help pay down some of the $10 million in debt its accrued and make some needed campus improvements.

The proposed retail center, which has gotten mixed reviews from citizens and alumni, would house two to three retail tenants, with potential tenants being that of a coffee shop, frozen yogurt shop, a bank or a drugstore.

Lyndale Station announces new tenants

After a year of vacancy, Lyndale Station's 19,200-square-foot retail building adjacent to LA Fitness will soon be full.

The development, which took the place of a former Kmart store, is now home to Firehouse Subs, which opened in December. Von Hanson's Meats and Salon Concepts have also signed leases and will open in the spring.

The third phase of the project is also still in motion, however, no new details are available on that.
