Richfeld State Senator Lauded as 'Friend of Public Education'

Patricia Torres Ray represents the northeast part of Richfield.

The Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) has named state Sen. Patricia Torres Ray a 2013 Friend of Public Education.

The award goes to state policymakers or citizens who show "exceptional leadership, advocacy and support of public education and issues important to metropolitan school districts." Torres Ray chairs the Senate's Education Committee.

In a statement, Torres Ray said:

“Education is a top priority for me, for the governor and my colleagues in the House and Senate. I'm thankful for the opportunity to work with AMSD and those who share our commitment to education. ... We added significant reforms and resources to public education this year, but we still have much more to do, and I look forward to continuing this work with these partners. ...
