Rep. Slocum Chief Authors Three New House Bills
The Minnesota State Legislature is in session.

While all of Richfield's representatives, including and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, made stops in town last week, they also worked on a variety of new bills as well. Here’s what happened this past week with bills authored or co-authored by Richfield's legislative representatives:

- Chief authored a bill requiring background checks for those appointed to medical examiner or coroner staff. HF640 was introduced on Feb. 21 and referred to Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance Committee.
- Chief authored a bill requiring teachers and school administrators to go through competency training to renew their professional license. The Gill was introduced on Feb. 21, referred to Education Reform the same day and another author was added on Feb. 24.
- Chief authored a bill that would allow a child, who is certified as an adult, to be detained in a juvenile facility prior to a trial or verdict. Hf0642 was introduced on Feb. 21 and referred to the Judiciary Policy and Finance Committee the same day.
House Minority Leader Paul Thissen (D-Minneapolis)
- Co-authored a bill that authorized funding for voluntary all-day kindergarten. The bill was introduced on Feb. 14 and referred to the Education Reform Committee the same day. No other actions have been taken at this time.

- Co-authored a bill appropriating money for Granary Road and storm water infrastructure. This bill authorized the sale and issuance of state bonds in order to fund the project. SF378 was introduced on Feb. 21 and referred to the Capitol Investment Committee the same day.
- Co-authored a bill that provides funding for the renovation of Target Center, also authoring the sale and issuance of state bonds. SF0376 was introduced on Feb. 21 and referred to the Capital Investment Committee the same day.
