More Trash Talk: Panelists to Discuss Single Garbage Hauler System

Should Richfield move to a single garbage hauler system? The League of Women Voters of Richfield is holding a public forum to tackle the issue in March.

Richfield residents will soon have the chance to hear from all sides of the city's garbage collection issue.

Discussions on whether Richfield should move to a single garbage hauler system have been on lingering since July 2011 when the council declined to implement such a system without more information on the benefits and disadvantages.

The League of Women Voters of Richfield is hosting a public forum on the topic from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, March 23.

Do you think Richfield should go to a singler hauler system? Why or why not?

Meant to be an educational event for the community, the forum will feature a panel of various garbage haulers, and metro area city and county officials. Hennepin County Commissioner Randy Johnson and former Maplewood city council member John Nephews are among the five panelists expected to participate. In addition, a City of St. Louis Park staff person, and representatives for Allied Waste and Burt's Disposal have signed on.
