UPDATED: Minnesota Fifth Congressional District Race

Incumbent Rep. Keith Ellison is up against two fellow DFLers Tuesday.

Minnesotans will be hitting the polls Tuesday to help narrow the field of local and state candidates before November's general election.

That's right. Tuesday, Aug. 14 is Minnesota Primary Day.

And among the names on the ballot will be those vying for Congressman Keith Ellison's (D-MN) U.S. House of Representatives seat.

fellow DFLers Gary Boisclair and Gregg Iverson, while Chris Fields is the lone Republican candidate. There are no Independence Party candidates.

Voters will be asked to select one candidate in total from either the DFL or Republican parties. The candidate with the most votes within his party will move on to the general election ballot in November.

Patch sent out a questionnaire to each candidate and compiled profiles for those who responded. *Iverson had not submitted a response to the questionnaire at the time of this article; Ellison submitted his response shortly after publication.

Stay tuned for more Patch coverage of Tuesday's primaries.

Is there going to be any coverage of the MN House and Senate races in the Southwest area?
Michael Rose August 14, 2012 at 05:20 pm
Yes, there will be Justin. Specific to St. Louis Park (because that's my Patch) we'll be covering the SD46 Republican primary between Paul Scofield and Roger Champagne. There are no primaries in either of SLP's House districts, 46A and 46B. We will also be covering the CD5 Democratic primary between Keith Ellison, Gregg Iverson and Gary Boisclair. Look for that coverage on Patch sites throughout the area.

Well said Mike.
Justin - If you're interested in Richfield (and Bloomington and a small part of South Minneapolis), there are no primaries for MN House or Senate tonight.

Thanks, I should have been more specific. I'm interested in coverage leading up to the general election, specifically in SD62 and HD62 A&B.

Justin, I believe SW Mpls Patch would be your source for that: http://southwestminneapolis.patch.com/ I've seen some Jeff Hayden coverage there for sure. Editor James Sanna (james.sanna@patch.com) would have a better pulse on that area than I.

I would love to see Dunn Brother's come back. The parking is the major problem. But I hope theyRead More don't utilize the idea to eliminate lanes on Lyndale. It is already like driving behind a funeral procession - often as slow as 15-20 miles an hour. It is so annoying.

The fact that the parking lot is hidden makes it appear as though there is little parking, and IRead More think that hurts business there. I think Dunn bros would be awesome but the store is too small for them... The bean roaster would take up 1/2 the store...

That's good advice. Also keep in mind that your reactions to the event probably won't be imitatedRead More while your children are young. But as they grow older, they'll subconsciously remember your reactions and that will greatly influence how they respond to these situations in adulthood. So if you're someone who started swearing at the TV about Muslim terrorists, or you wept for the victims, or you prayed for the souls of the perpetrators, you should expect your reaction to ultimately have far more influence on your child than the discussions mentioned in this article.

Exactly, Chris Mau!!! Kids live what they learn at home. If we treat kids with respect, as well asRead More how we present the facts of life, kids will grow to become empathetic, meaning, they will care and have compassion for the world around them. If they see us cussing out different races, creeds and colors or origins, they will grow up mean, spiteful and cynical. It's all up to US adults people...who's willing to step to the plate and be that example? These children, they are our future....how they grow depends on us.
